Gauntlet Watch
Georgia Blogger Eyes Embattled
McKinney’s House Seat!

By J. Richard Pearcey

April 4, 2006 -- A Georgia blogger is announcing today his intent to challenge embattled Democrat Rep. Cynthia McKinney for Congress, “unless a better candidate appears,” says Will Hinton, aka“Dignan,” over at a blog titled “Dignan’s 75 Year Plan.”

“For many years now, Rep. Cynthia McKinney has been viewed as a political joke,” says Hinton, “not just by Republicans but I believe by the average person in America.  Michael Moore probably comes closest to Cynthia in sheer outlandish demogoguery.  And he isn’t an elected official.”

Hinton says he’s “not laughing,” because “Cynthia is my representative.”

His concerns:

* McKinney Doesn’t Care Factor: “Imagine having a representative in Congress who cares nothing about their constituents.”

* McKinney Mockery Factor: “Imagine your representative constantly being a target of mockery because of lunatic statements that would make great headlines at The Onion.”

* McKinney Race Factor: “Imagine having a virulent racist as your representative.”

* McKinney Self-Centeredness Factor: “Imagine having a representative who cared only about themselves.”

It’s not that McKinnney is “unfit for her job because she is liberal,” says Hinton.  “There are plenty of liberal Democrats in this country who serve their constituents well, even though I often disagree with their positions.”

Rep. McKinney is “unfit for her job because she is a do-nothing demogogue whose apparent goal in life is self-promotion through race-baiting and conspiracy theories.”

So comes the announcement: “I am throwing down the gauntlet.”

“Unless a better candidate appears, I will run for Congress against Cynthia.”

“If I have to spend every day after work knocking on doors in my district for the next 20 years, I will do what it takes to defeat her.”  And if Hinton has to place “calls to every person in this country asking for donations to the campaign, I will do it.”
