Poll: Trump Approval Rating at 42%, Twice That of Congress at 21%

By Rick Pearcey • January 31, 2018, 05:40 PM

Jeffrey Rodack reports at Newsmax:

President Donald Trump's approval rating has jumped 10 points in a month and now stands at 42 percent, according to a new Monmouth University Poll.

This contrasts sharply with the mere 21% approval rating adults gave to Congress.

"The poll, conducted from Jan. 28-29, surveyed 806 adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent," Newsmax reports.

Rep. Gaetz Calls on President Trump to Release Intel Memo During SOTU

By Rick Pearcey • January 30, 2018, 02:42 PM

Michael Chapman reports at CNSNews.com:

House Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who is a strong advocate for releasing the intelligence memo about alleged malfeasance at the FBI, called on President Donald Trump to release the four-page document during his State of the Union speech this evening, Jan. 30.

On Monday, Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee voted to release the memo. No Democrats voted for its release. President Trump has five days to review the document and decide whether he wants it distributed to the public. Trump has said he would like to see the document released.

"Tomorrow, the President of the United States will walk down the center aisle and address this floor," Gaetz said yesterday on the House floor during a special session, Chapman reports.

"I hope the first thing he does is hand to the Speaker of the House his consent and his agreement to allow transparency to reign, to declassify this memo, and put it before the American people," Gaetz continued, according to CNS.

"And then let's have a great debate about its consequences and the opportunity it presents to make things better, so these things never happen again," Gaetz said.

Sanctuary Cleric Quits After Video Shows Her Yelling at Police for Arresting Alleged Domestic Assault Felon in Church

By Rick Pearcey • January 29, 2018, 11:57 AM

Joshua Gill reports at the Daily Caller:

A Connecticut pastor resigned Thursday after berating police officers for arresting a man who took refuge inside the church after beating his mother.

Rev. Care Goodstal Spinks obstructed a police car Tuesday and tried to force East Haven police officer to release Ryan Champlin, whom they arrested in Old Stone Church for attacking his mother and beating her head with a phone until the device broke, according to The Maven.

Church leadership thanked police officers for their swift and calm actions and announced Thursday via Facebook that Spinks resigned in light of her actions and her differences with the wider congregation.

"This is a church," Spinks said to the officer, according to the DC. "We're protected by federal law and state law. It is a place of sanctuary and refuge."

However, "there is no such federal law protecting criminal suspects from arrest inside a church," the DC reports. "The officer explained that Champlin was wanted for domestic abuse and assault. His argument did not dissuade Spinks," according to the DC.

"You realize that you see on the news all the time, people taking sanctuary, refuge in a church, and even the federal law can't come in and get them, because this place is a protected place," the cleric told the officer, the DC reports.

The DC suggest that "Spinks was likely referencing cases of illegal immigrants who have taken refuge from deportation inside churches. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers do not make arrests inside churches as a matter of policy, since they list churches as a sensitive area, but no law technically prevents them from making arrests in said 'sensitive locations'."

Michigan State President Resigns Over Larry Nassar Sex Abuse Scandal

By Rick Pearcey • January 25, 2018, 10:45 AM

Samuel Chamberlain reports at Fox News:

Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon resigned late Wednesday over criticism of the university's handling of sexual abuse claims against former sports doctor Larry Nassar.

Simon resigned hours after Nassar was sentenced to between 40 and 175 years in prison for molesting women and girls while supposedly treating them for sports injuries.

In her resignation letter, Simon addressed the survivors of Nassar's abuse, saying she was "so sorry that a trusted, renowned physician was really such an evil, evil person who inflicted such harm under the guise of medical treatment."

"Nassar pleaded guilty to assaulting seven people in the Lansing area, including in his home basement and at his campus office," Fox News reports. "However, more than 150 women and girls confronted Nassar about his abuse at an extraordinary seven-day sentencing hearing. Many of the victims accused the university of mishandling complaints about Nassar, some of which go back more than two decades."

The university "faces further scrutiny in the Nassar case," according to Fox News. "The state's attorney general plans to investigate how the university handled the allegations."

Professorette's Twitter Tirade: Pro-Life Women Should "Sit Down and Shut Up"

By Rick Pearcey • January 24, 2018, 01:26 PM

Caleb Parke reports at Fox News:

A New York City college professor said she supports women marching -- unless they're against abortion.

New School professor Jennifer Begeal tweeted Friday that pro-life students and activists participating in the March for Life in Washington, D.C., should "sit down and shut up."

Begeal, who teaches digital storytelling at The New School, took to social media Friday to lambaste the anti-abortion marchers for not supporting myriad liberal causes, Campus Reform reported.

"If you support #MarchforLife but don't support a woman's right to choose, please sit down and shut up," Begeal wrote in one of the 17 posts she fired off during a three-hour tirade.

She told marchers to "sit down and shut up" if they don't support climate change, legalizing marijuana or gun control -- among other things.

The not-so-tolerant professor also had kind words for men: "'If you support #MarchforLife but you aren't a woman, please sit down and shut the f*** up,' she wrote," according to Fox.

Fox took the opportunity to grab a 10-foot pole and reach out to the college and Mzz. Begeal for comment. But the "New School and Begeal did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment," Parke reports.

Fake the Vote: 2nd Texas County Faces Lawsuit for Withholding Records of Noncitizens Registered to Vote

By Rick Pearcey • January 23, 2018, 12:34 PM

Joe Schoffstall reports at Free Beacon:

A public interest election group is threatening to sue a Texas County over its refusal to release records dealing with noncitizens on their voter rolls, the second Texas County threatened with such a lawsuit this month.

The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), a group that litigates to protect election integrity, sent a final notice to Harris County in Texas warning that they could face a federal lawsuit if they continued to deny the group inspection of their records related to registrants who were removed from the rolls after it was discovered that they were noncitizens.

Harris County voter registration officials previously testified that "thousands" of noncitizens were discovered every year on their rolls and were handed over to the District Attorney for prosecution.

The city of Houston, the largest city in the state, and one of the most populous cities in America, is located in Harris County.

Austria Announces "Border Protection Unit" to Manage Migration

By Rick Pearcey • January 22, 2018, 10:51 AM

Chris Tomlinson reports at Breitbart:

Austrian populist Freedom Party (FPÖ) Interior Minister Herbert Kickl has announced the creation of a new border force which he said will "ensure orderly border management."

The new force would be used to manage the flow of asylum seekers coming into the country, Interior Minister Kickl said in an interview last week with Austrian newspaper Tiroler Tageszeitung.

"We already have effective monitoring that works well. But what certainly cannot happen is a repetition of the year 2015," Kickl said referring to the height of the migrant crisis when hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers travelled through Austria to reach Germany.

Kickl described the border guard as a "police standby force" and said they will secure the border and perform identity checks.

"During the interview, Kickl also slammed the baby-boomer progressive generation, commonly known in Europe as the '68ers after the Paris protests of May 1968," Breitbart continues.

"The project of the '68ers failed. We are now experiencing a counter-movement, not only in Austria. And that's just as well. For me, this is a return to normality," Breitbart quotes Kickl as saying.

"The 68ers tried to be destructive in the name of progress. Consider the erosion of state identity or the identity of the family network," Kickl added, according to Breitbart.

"This government stands for an offensive counter-proposal," Kickl also said, Breitbart reports. "The theses of the '68ers have turned out to be wrong. The need for orientation, security, and homeland has been put back in a positive light by us."

Muslim Derangement Syndrome in Canada

By Rick Pearcey • January 19, 2018, 11:33 AM

Lloyd Billingsley writes at Frontpagemag.com:

In Canada, any Muslim can perpetrate a bogus "hate crime" with complete impunity. Likewise, Muslims can stab police officers and attack a 75-year-old grandmother, and Canadian authorities will slap a gag order on any hint of Islamic motivation. This is a symptom of Muslim Derangement Syndrome (MDS).

Those afflicted with MDS welcome any Muslim, even if they cannot verify background and even if the Muslim has been deported from the United States. MDS induces complete credulity over Muslim hoaxes but when Muslims attack innocent victims the MDS types lapse into a state of willful ignorance over possible motives. When anyone invokes Islam as a motive, MDS victims break into uncontrolled utterances of "Islamophobia," "racism," and "diversity is our strength."

Ronaldinho: Soul of Soccer

By Rick Pearcey • January 18, 2018, 04:26 PM

As Zito Madu points out at SBNation.com:

One of the most obvious Ronaldinho moments is when he was applauded at the Santiago Bernabéu, when his show was so great that even his harshest critics were compelled to clap and attest to the greatness that they witnessed.

The scene was a symbol of how transcendent his skills were. Even a rivalry that involved the throwing of a pig's head at Luis Figo didn’t stop fans from giving their appreciation.

Here is Ronaldinho's farewell statement on his retiring from competitive professional soccer.

We look forward to seeing what's next for Ronaldinho -- as great a poet of the game as I've ever seen.

Enjoy this video of Ronaldinho vs. Real Madrid.

And here, "Ronaldinho Gaucho: Impossible Moments to Forget."

What is Ronaldinho football? "As electrifying as a hair dryer thrown into a hot tub, my friend . . . absolutely breathtaking" -- Ray Hudson of Bein Sports.

Obrigado, Ronaldinho!

Editorial Note/Update: Thank you, "Verbal Gymnast" Ray Hudson, who may have been the first person I heard describe the likes of Messi and Ronaldinho as, if memory serves, "poets of the game."

Nancy Pearcey: Liberal Elites Are Killing Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Vision

By Rick Pearcey • January 17, 2018, 11:19 AM

Our editor-at-large Nancy writes at CNSNews.com:

It may have sounded like routine political platitudes. On Friday, when President Donald Trump signed a declaration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., he said, “Today we celebrate Dr. King for standing up for the self-evident truth Americans hold so dear, that … we are all created equal by God.”

Far from being platitudes, however, today those are fighting words. King’s vision of equal rights is no longer “self-evident” to many of America’s opinion makers in media, politics, and academia. Why not? Because they have embraced secular ideologies that sabotage King’s ideal.

Listen in on some of the thinkers who are busy destroying King's vision of inalienable rights. . . .

"New California" Declares Independence -- From California, Not From United States

By Rick Pearcey • January 16, 2018, 02:56 PM

Craig Bannister reports at CNSNews.com:

Citing the U.S. Constitution, a group introduced its Declaration of Independence -- from California, but not from the United States.

The "New California" movement wants to turn northern and rural California into the nation's 51 state, separating from southern, coastal urban California in the same way that West Virginia was formed, CBS Sacramento reported Monday.

"Unlike other separation movements in the past," CBS Sacramento reports, "the state of New California wants to do things by the book, citing Article 4, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution and working with the state legislature to get it done, similar to the way West Virginia was formed."

Nancy Pearcey Column on "Despair, Not Pleasure" at LifeSiteNews

By Rick Pearcey • January 11, 2018, 07:15 AM

LifeSiteNews has picked up Nancy's most recent column, published under the headline "Why Despair, Not Pleasure, Is the Biggest Driver of Today's Sex Scandals." The article unpacks the theme of "Women, Sex, Alienation: Hating the Body in Silicon Valley. "

In this column (which also appears at Fox News and CNSNews, Nancy writes:

A society's view of sex reflects its deeper commitments -- its prevailing ethos or worldview. The sexual liberation ethic stems from an underlying idea that the world is a product of blind, material forces. As a recent New Yorker article put it, "the loyalty oath of modernity" is that "nature is without conscious design . . . the emergence of Homo sapiens was without meaning or telos" (purpose).

And if the human body is said to have no meaning or purpose, neither does sex. On one hand, that means we are free to make up our own rules. On the other hand, it means that under all the hype about being bold and experimental is a fundamental despair -- the belief that sex is insignificant in a literal sense: signifying nothing. As a drummer in Austin, Texas, told Rolling Stone, sex is just "a piece of body touching another piece of body"; it is "existentially meaningless."

This outlook is deeply dehumanizing. No wonder many people keep grabbing at more -- and more extreme -- sexual experiences, while finding less genuine fulfillment.

Nancy's most recent book is the just-published Love Thy Body, which aims to "counter the hostility toward the human body and the biological facts of life that drives many of today's heart-wrenching headline stories. Unfortunately, many people absorb pre-packaged media mantras on watershed ethical questions without being aware of their hurtful real-world implications," as Nancy's official website states.

The idea is to provide a "holistic and humane alternative available to all -- one that offers authentic, reality-oriented solutions that embrace the dignity of the human body and provide a sustainable basis for unalienable human rights," the Love Thy Body book description states.

Nancy's "LOVE THY BODY" No. 1 "Hot New Release" in 3 Amazon Categories

By Rick Pearcey • January 4, 2018, 12:12 PM

Even though Nancy's book Love Thy Body can be regarded as a "Self-Help" book -- as I explain below (and here) -- Amazon has it listed as:

  • No. 1 New Release in Theology (not bad for former agnostic Nancy)
  • No. 1 New Release in Christian Social Issues (not bad for an erstwhile Hippie girl
  • No. 1 New Release in Christian Apologetics (not bad but what you might expect from an ongoing critical thinker)

No worries, Amazon. All is well. We know you need to run a business.

But Now -- let's broaden our horizons.

Here's what I wrote on Facebook a couple of days ago on why Love Thy Body is very much a Self-Help book:

Amazon seems to think LOVE THY BODY is some kind of theology book

"No. 1 New Release in . . . Theology" ???

OK. That's nice . . .

BUT . . . Really

KIND of LIMITING

Because LOVE THY BODY could just as well be in the self-help section of your favorite bookstore

LOVE THY BODY is a SELF-HELP BOOK

Helping regular people regain their holistic humanness

Tired of being . . . DEHUMANIZED . . . ALIENATED . . .

People tired of being treated like pieces of meat to be sliced and diced by academic "gender theorists" barely able to tie their shoelaces

LOVE THY BODY is about . . .

Helping regular folks tired of being TORN APART body and soul by secularism

Regular people need honest, real-world answers to hard questions about life & sexuality

So, let's get practical: LOVE THY BODY

For more information on Love Thy Body, please see NancyPearcey.com or visit the Amazonians.

Trump: Steve Bannon "Not Only Lost His Job, He Lost His Mind"

By Rick Pearcey • January 3, 2018, 04:23 PM

Melanie Arter reports at CNSNews.com:

President Donald Trump issued a rebuke of former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon on Wednesday, saying Bannon has "lost his mind" after Bannon called the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Trump's top campaign officials and a group of Russians "treasonous."

Here is the full Trump statement:

Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my Presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind. Steve was a staffer who worked for me after I had already won the nomination by defeating seventeen candidates, often described as the most talented field ever assembled in the Republican party.

Now that he is on his own, Steve is learning that winning isn't as easy as I make it look. Steve had very little to do with our historic victory, which was delivered by the forgotten men and women of this country. Yet Steve had everything to do with the loss of a Senate seat in Alabama held for more than thirty years by Republicans. Steve doesn't represent my base -- he's only in it for himself.

Steve pretends to be at war with the media, which he calls the opposition party, yet he spent his time at the White House leaking false information to the media to make himself seem far more important than he was. It is the only thing he does well. Steve was rarely in a one-on-one meeting with me and only pretends to have had influence to fool a few people with no access and no clue, whom he helped write phony books.

We have many great Republican members of Congress and candidates who are very supportive of the Make America Great Again agenda. Like me, they love the United States of America and are helping to finally take our country back and build it up, rather than simply seeking to burn it all down.

Now, "NeverTrump Celebrates," Breitbart reports.

For me, let's get more facts out on the table and see what happened. That's usually difficult to do in the heat of the moment.

But for now, this:

1) Trump overstates in his repudiation of Bannon. As "chief strategist" Bannon clearly helped Trump win the 2016 election -- and so Bannon has something to do with Trump and his presidency. Bannon may be persona non grata at the Trump White House, etc., but that's a different statement.

2) I'm not at all convinced that meeting with Russians during a campaign constitutes treason or is unpatriotic. We need to know more about who was there -- more about all the who, what, where, when, and whys. At a minimum, before drawing conclusions (which should be open to adjustment, based on reliable, factual information), we need to see verifiable reporting on any such meetings -- and a lot of such reporting.

3) Stay cool, stay focused, ask for evidence, outlast the bombast, and continue to fight like Heaven for the restoration of the Declaration and Constitution to the body politic of the United States. This is our calling and challenge as "We, the People" -- and the Swamp in all its muck and mire remains to be drained.

Finally, "Test Everything." This attitude and approach applies to the statements and actions of presidents, White House staffers, political opponents, the Dark Media, the Deep State, people you trust, people you don't trust, NeverTrump, AlwaysTrump, preachers, doctors, celebrities, professors, scientists, etc., etc. Not to mention crossing the street.

In all of human affairs, your chances of arriving safely on the other side are greatly increased if you test everything.

"LOVE THY BODY" Challenges Secularist Dehumanization, Alienation: Publishes Today, by Nancy Pearcey

By Rick Pearcey • January 2, 2018, 10:25 AM

We are happy to announce that Nancy Pearcey's new book, Love Thy Body: Answering Hard Questions about Life and Sexuality as of today is officially published.

Here is the book description at Amazon:

Why the Call to Love Thy Body?
To counter the hostility toward the human body and biological facts of life driving many of today's headline stories. Many people absorb pre-packaged media mantras on watershed moral issues without being aware of their hurtful real-world implications.

Consider:

* Transgenderism: Activists detach gender from biology. Kids down to kindergarten are being taught their body is irrelevant to their authentic self. Is this affirming -- or does it demean the body?

* Homosexuality: Advocates disconnect sexuality from being biologically male or female. Is this liberating -- or does it denigrate who we really are?

* Abortion: Supporters admit that pre-born babies are human, but deny that they are persons worthy of legal protection. Does this lead to equality for women -- or does it threaten the intrinsic dignity of all humans?

* Hookup Culture: On campus, in Hollywood, and in the boardroom, the sexual revolution was supposed to liberate us for recreational sex. But has it really led to schizoid sex and bodies without meaning?

In Love Thy Body, best-selling author Nancy Pearcey goes beyond politically correct talking points to offer a riveting exposé of the dehumanizing secularist ethos that shapes critical moral and socio-political issues of our day.

Formerly an agnostic, Pearcey was hailed in The Economist as "America's preeminent evangelical Protestant female intellectual." Fearlessly and with compassion, she makes the case that secularism denigrates the body and destroys the basis for human rights.

Throughout, Pearcey sets forth a holistic and humane alternative availableto all -- one that offers reality-oriented solutions that embrace the dignity of the human body and provide a sustainable basis for inalienable human rights.

Now, more than ever, we need to learn to "love thy body."
