"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" Called Bigoted

By Rick Pearcey • November 30, 2018, 09:53 AM

Lukas Mikelionis reports at Fox News:

HuffPost, a liberal news site, was lampooned after saying Christmas classic "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" was "seriously problematic" over claims that it features sexism and bullying.

"Viewers are noticing the tale may not be so jolly after all," the outlet's video said. "And they're sharing their observations online."

Among those observations was the suggestion that the TV classic was a story about racism and homophobia, while calling Santa Claus abusive and bigoted.

Gladly, "HuffPost's effort to highlight the perceived bigotry of the beloved movie attracted tens of thousands of negative comments, most of them mocking the video," Mikelionis reports.

Among the negative comments is this: "Liberalism is a disease" -- tweeted by Donald Trump, Jr., according to Fox News.

Gun-Rights Groups Call for Dialogue After Alabama Police Shooting

By Rick Pearcey • November 29, 2018, 08:40 AM

Stephen Gutowski reports at the Free Beacon:

A pair of gun-rights groups called for a national dialogue between law enforcement and the gun-carrying community on Tuesday after a legally armed man was mistakenly killed during a shooting at a mall in Alabama last week.

The Second Amendment Foundation and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms released a joint statement calling for police officers and law enforcement officials to sit down with gun-carry advocates and firearms trainers to discuss ways to prevent legally armed civilians from being shot by police during future incidents.

The groups said the conversation was necessary to save lives of good Samaritans who are trying to defend themselves or others during attacks in public places. They said that while cases of mistaken shootings during attacks have been rare up until now, the prevalence of concealed carry means they could become more common if steps aren't taken to prevent them.

Nooses Found Near Mississippi State Capitol Turn Out to Be Democrat "Protest"

By Rick Pearcey • November 28, 2018, 08:24 AM

Emily Zanotti writes at the Daily Wire:

A group of nooses discovered hanging off trees near the Mississippi state Capitol were not a warning from a white supremacist group, but rather a "protest" by leftists against Mississippi Republican Senate candidate Cindy Hyde-Smith.

Mainstream media organizations melted down on Monday after a number of nooses were found hanging in the vicinity of the capitol building, strung from trees as part of a "message" campaign -- though the Associated Press, which first reported the story, didn't give much more information about the "message" the nooses were trying to send, only that it was one of "hate."

Millennial Poll: America "Racist," Not "Great," Obama Better Than Washington

By Rick Pearcey • November 27, 2018, 01:34 PM

Paul Bedard writes at the Washington Examiner:

Younger Americans are turning on the country and forgetting its ideals, with nearly half believing that it isn't "great" and many eyeing the U.S. flag as "a sign of intolerance and hatred," according to a new and disturbing survey.

Those who came of age under former President Barack Obama also have a larger-than-life view of the 44th president and feel that he had a "bigger impact" on the United States than the father of the country and leader of the Revolutionary War, former President George Washington.

On the release of the report, Nick Adams, founder of FLAG [Foundation for Liberty and American Greatness], said, "We suspected that we would find decreasing numbers of Americans well-versed in our nation's most important principles and young people less patriotic than the generations that came before, but we were totally unprepared for what our national survey reveals: an epidemic of anti-Americanism."

"That half of millennials and Gen Z believe that the country in which they live is both 'racist' and 'sexist' shows that we have a major fraction of an entire generation that has been indoctrinated by teachers starting in grade school that America is what's wrong with the world," Adams also said, according to Bedard.

"Do Not Enter": Former Olympic Village Becomes Migrant No-Go Zone

By Rick Pearcey • November 23, 2018, 10:17 AM

Chris Tomlinson reports at Breitbart:

The former Olympic village in the northern Italian city of Turin has become a no-go zone according to reports that say the area has become filled with migrants and police "do not enter."

The three buildings within the village were built to house athletes during the 2006 winter Olympics, but are now increasingly used by newly arrived migrants along with far-left activists in their so-called "social centres," Il Giornale reeports.

Around 95 per cent of the residents are men aged 25 to 35, and come from mainly Nigeria, Gambia, and Mali. A large number of them are reported to be illegal migrants.

"Far-left activists have occupied the area for several years and cooperate with the illegal migrants to 'resist' any attempts to evacuate the squatters," Tomlinson reports for Breitbart.

President Abraham Lincoln's "Proclamation of Thanksgiving"

By Rick Pearcey • November 22, 2018, 12:46 PM

On Saturday, Oct. 3, 1863, in the midst of the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln issued the following proclamation:

The year that is drawing toward its close has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever-watchful providence of Almighty God.

In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign states to invite and provoke their aggressions, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere, except in the theater of military conflict; while that theater has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union.

Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defense have not arrested the plow, the shuttle, or the ship; the ax has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege, and the battlefield, and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.

It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American people. I do, therefore, invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a Day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens. And I recommend to them that, while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners, or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation, and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility, and union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United Stated States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty-eighth.

"Pro-Life" John Kasich Threatens to Veto Bill Banning Abortions on Babies With Heartbeats

By Rick Pearcey • November 21, 2018, 01:02 PM

Calvin Freiburger reports at LifeSiteNews:

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a past and potentially-future Republican presidential candidate who bills himself as "pro-life," has renewed his opposition to pending legislation that would protect almost all pre-born babies in his state.

On Thursday, the Ohio House voted 60 to 35 to pass House Bill 258, which bans abortions on any pre-born baby with a detectable heartbeat, except in cases of a "substantial and irreversible" physical threat to the mother.

Any physician who violates the statute would face up to a year in prison. Pre-born babies’ hearts finish forming around seven or eight weeks into pregnancy.

"Establishing human heartbeat protections in Ohio is a historic opportunity for those committed to the cause of life," Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati declared last week.

"Kasich confirmed he remains opposed to the heartbeat bill during a meeting with reporters at the statehouse Monday, the Toledo Blade reports," according to LifeSiteNews.

"I see nothing that’s coming that would make me change my position," he said, the Blade reports.

Cheryl Chumley vs. Ocasio-Cortez: Here's Why Your Socialism Is Wrong

By Rick Pearcey • November 20, 2018, 02:40 PM

Cheryl Chumley writes at the WTimes:

The newly elected self-declared socialist congresswoman for New York, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, just hit at Republicans for so-called "drooling" at the chance to criticize her and said that instead of standing at the ready to go public with all her mistakes and missteps, they ought to instead "actually step up enough to make the argument they want to make."

OK. Invitation accepted. So here goes: Socialists don't belong in American politics.

Socialists don't even belong in American society.

President Donald Trump may call the media the enemy of the people. But that title, that badge, that phrase of scorn and derision, more rightly belongs on the chest of those who say they're American but at the same time claim political adherence to socialism, either formally -- through the party, and its various offspring parties -- or informally, in ideology.

Drum them out.

"Yes, that's right, socialists are the enemy of America, the antithesis of the American dream, the bold-face opposers to all that the Founding Fathers represented -- to all that patriots over the long, sometimes bloody decades have fought to preserve," Chumley continues.

"A pretty smile doesn't change that fact. An engaging personality doesn't change that. A pretended compassionate concern for the working guy doesn't change that, either. . . ."

Totalitarian Democracy of Stacey Abrams

By Rick Pearcey • November 19, 2018, 09:48 AM

Abraham H. Miller writes at American Thinker:

"Democracy has failed in Georgia," said Stacey Abrams in what hardly could be called a concession speech after a ballot recount confirmed that the Republican candidate, Brian Kemp, had defeated her in Georgia's gubernatorial contest.

Of course, democracy did not fail in Georgia. The voters made their voices heard at the ballot box, and Ms. Abrams did not like what she heard.

The late Israeli historian J.L. Talmon called such behavior "totalitarian democracy" or "messianic democracy," which found its origins in the French Revolution when the extremists arrogated to themselves the unfettered right to interpret the will of the people.

"Alexis de Tocqueville wrote about this when he observed that those who made the French Revolution always spoke in the name of the people, without in the least having bothered to consult them," Miller explains.

"Talmon's theme was that in totalitarian democracy there exists a general will, an abstraction that is known to elites who divine what the people really want and assume the right to speak in the name of the people," Miller continues.

"In totalitarian democracy, the elite are not the people's representatives but their messiahs," Miller states.

"Abrams stands squarely in the long pantheon of those who claimed not only to understand the will of the people but also to embody it. This pantheon," Miller notes, "includes the French Revolution's Robespierre, Italy's Benito Mussolini, Argentina’s Juan Peron, and Lenin, among others.

Chicago Pastor Asks Man in Drag to Leave Church: "Go Put on Man Clothes"

By Rick Pearcey • November 16, 2018, 12:19 PM

Lisa Gutierrez reports at KansasCity.com:

A Chicago pastor who asked a man dressed in drag to leave a worship service because he was dressed like a woman stands by his actions after coming under fire.

A Facebook video of the Sunday night encounter shows Antonio Rocquemore of Power House International Ministries asking the unidentified man to step out into the aisle.

"Can you leave my church and go put on man clothes? And don't come here like that no more," Rocquemore can be seen telling the man in the video, posted by Christian James Lhuillier.

"I hold a standard in here. Whatever you do on the outside is your business, but I will not let drag queens come in here. If you're gonna come in here you're gonna dress like a man."

"Non-Binary" D.C. Public Schools Harming Students & Families They Claim to Serve

By Rick Pearcey • November 15, 2018, 11:41 AM

In reply to a news report titled, "D.C. Public School Students Now Allowed to Identify as 'Non-Binary'," I wrote on Facebook:

Be thankful we do not live in a non-binary universe.

If we did, life on the road would be chaos and death.

No bus driver would be able to bus kids to school without an accident.

Life is impossible without antithesis.

Knowledge is impossible without the possibility of detecting the difference between "there" and "not there."

A non-binary world pretends opposites are so yesterday.

But then today a bus that is "there" as opposed to "not there" runs your precious life over.

Science is impossible without the possibility of evaluating the difference between fact and fiction, myth and truth --

The difference between fantasies that kill and information that liberates.

Non-binary is just another word for "enslave my mind."

In a non-binary world, the insane feel free as they bounce with confidence to the gas chambers.

D.C. public schools need to stop harming students and families they purport to serve.

Imagine there are no opposites. It's easy, then you die.

D.C. public schools need to stop harming students and families they purport to serve.

Gun Controller David Hogg Compares Shootings to Shark Attacks

By Rick Pearcey • November 14, 2018, 12:44 PM

Ashe Schow writes at Daily Wire:

Gun control activist David Hogg, who survived the Parkland, FL school shooting earlier this year, attempted to make a profound statement about shootings by comparing them to shark attacks.

"Imagine saying the only way to stop shark attacks is with more sharks," Hogg tweeted. . . .

On its face, this makes a little sense. Why would you release more sharks hoping to stop sharks from attacking people?

But if you think about it for more than a second, you can see how the argument falls apart.

Sharks are the guns, in this analogy, so let's look at this from a gun rights and gun control view.

"For gun-rights activists, the idea that a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun is a prevalent talking point," Schow continues.

"In Hogg's analogy, that would mean finding good sharks to stop the bad sharks," Schow observes. "If we could train sharks like that, well, that would be awesome."

Survey of Financial Journalists: Liberals Outnumbering Conservatives 14-to-1

By Rick Pearcey • November 13, 2018, 11:05 AM

David Rutz reports at the Free Beacon:

A survey of financial journalists revealed a stark political contrast, with 58 percent of respondents describing themselves as liberal against just 4 percent calling themselves conservative.

The study, conducted by professors at Arizona State University and Texas A&M University, sought to "provide new insights into the inputs, incentives, and beliefs that shape their reporting" by interviewing 462 financial reporters about their jobs.

"The findings of the reporters' political leanings mirrors that of Politico surveys of the White House press corps in 2016 (zero Republicans among 72 reporters surveyed) and 2017 (three Republicans out of 63 surveyed)," Rutz reports.

Why Trump Right on CA Wildfires: "Green Policies" Burning Golden State to a Crisp

By Rick Pearcey • November 12, 2018, 02:21 PM

Matthew Vadum writes at Frontpagemag.com:

Trump is right -- at least in a big-picture way -- and his critics are wrong.

Years ago environmentalist lobbies ideologically opposed to economic growth put the screws to California's once-thriving wood-harvesting industry. New federal and state regulations came into effect make it increasingly difficult for the industry to operate.

"As a result, timber industry employment gradually collapsed, falling in 2017 to half of what it was 20 years earlier, with imports from Canada, China, and other nations filling domestic need," Chuck DeVore, Vice President of National Initiatives at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, writes at Forbes.

As timber harvesting permit fees rose and environmental regulations intensified, industry employees left the field and "[t]he combustible fuel load in the forest predictably soared," according to DeVore.

“No longer were forest management professionals clearing brush and thinning trees."

"With all that kindling piling up on forest floors," Vadum continues, "today's devastating wildfires were not hard to foresee."

Sick: Vox's Matt Yglesias Condoned Violence Against Wife of Tucker Carlson

By Rick Pearcey • November 9, 2018, 01:08 PM

Mike Brest reports at the Daily Caller:

Vox employee Matt Yglesias deleted all of his tweets Thursday night after facing criticism for defending the attacks against Fox News host Tucker Carlson's wife.

Yglesias announced on Twitter Thursday morning that he "honestly cannot empathize with Tucker Carlson's wife" after members of Antifa swarmed her home and cracked the front door Wednesday night.

"I think the idea behind terrorizing his family, like it or not as a strategy, is to make them feel some of the fear that the victims of MAGA-inspired violence feel thanks to the non-stop racial incitement coming from Tucker, Trump, etc.[,]" Yglesias tweeted before deleting it.

"He followed up that tweet adding, 'I agree that this is probably not tactically sound but if your instinct is to empathize with the fear of the Carlson family rather than with the fear of his victims then you should take a minute to reflect on why that is'," Brest reports.

TBS Full Frontal host Samantha Bee defended CNN's White House correspondent Jim Acosta after he got physical with a White House intern at a press briefing on Wednesday.

After a testy exchange with Acosta over his policies on immigration, President Donald Trump accused Accosta of being a "very rude person," adding that "CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them."

Trump Exulting in Having Nancy Pelosi as His Foil

By Rick Pearcey • November 7, 2018, 10:38 AM

Thomas Lifson writes at American Thinker:

Prior to the election, there was speculation that President Trump wanted Republicans to lose the House in order to ensure his 2020 re-election by running against the crazy House Dems, led by Nancy Pelosi, whose verbal inartfulness is already legendary.

On the campaign trail, he warned his supporters about the dangers of a Pelosi speakership, but I am pretty sure he recognizes in her the possibilities for deal-making.

Support for that hypothesis comes from the congratulatory call he made to her last night, and from his tweet this morning endorsing her for Speaker. . . .

Lisfon says he looks "forward to the intra-party conflict ahead for the Democrats as the impeachment-crazed haters run up against the party establishment. . . . Trump knows that the aging establishment versus the new generation radical crazies (Alexandria Occasional-Cortez, for example) is a fault line that he can exploit."

Democrat Stacey Abrams: Banning Guns Like Banning Radar Detectors

By Rick Pearcey • November 6, 2018, 11:39 AM

A.W.R. Hawkins writes at Breitbart:

During Monday morning interview on CNN, Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams made clear she does not see any difference between banning guns and banning radar detectors.

Her appearance gave the host time to reference Abrams' Sunday comments, wherein she said that Georgians may have to “turn their guns in” under her gun control plans.

The host asked if she was really going to take away people's guns, and Abrams responded by comparing bans on radar detectors with bans on commonly owned semiautomatic firearms.

"I support a law that will ban 'assault weapons'," Abrams is quoted as saying. "And just as when we banned radar detection, for example, some people turned in their devices, some people kept them and just refused to use them anymore."

According to Hawkins, "after mentioning that people were able to keep their radar detectors but were banned from using them," Democrat Abrams "then pointed out that the case could be different with weapons, saying, 'Weapons are more dangerous, they are more vulnerable to misuse'."

"Die Jew Rats": Democrat Charged With Vandalizing New York Synagogue

By Rick Pearcey • November 5, 2018, 11:56 AM

Lloyd Billingsley writes at Frontpagemag.com:

On Friday, just days after 11 people were murdered in a Pittsburgh synagogue, New York City police arrested James Polite, a Democrat, for vandalizing a New York synagogue with anti-Semitic messages.

"Die Jew rats we are here," read one message, along with "Jews better be ready," and "Hitler."

The next day, CNN failed to report that Polite, 26, was a Democrat activist who had worked on the Obama campaign in 2008.

CNN described him as a "Brooklyn man" arrested and charged with a hate crime for the anti-Semitic messages and "criminal mischief and making graffiti."

Other reports found more background on the Democrat, who had been identified through surveillance footage.

6-in-9 Swing District Voters: Keep Migrant Caravan Out of the Country

By Rick Pearcey • November 2, 2018, 12:59 PM

John Binder reports at Breitbart:

Nearly 6-in-9 likely voters in swing districts across the United States say federal officials must keep a migrant caravan of at least 10,000 Central Americans out of the country.

In a new poll by NumbersUSA, about 65 percent of likely voters in swing districts this election cycle say the migrant caravan headed to the U.S. to overwhelm the country's asylum and immigration system needs to be kept out of the country.

About 40 percent say "all of them" in the caravan should be stopped "from entering the country." About 25 percent of likely swing district voters say the U.S. should "require them to remain in Mexico until their asylum hearing."

"Only 18 percent of likely swing district voters support the country's current asylum process, which allows illegal border crossers and asylum-seekers to enter the U.S. while awaiting their hearings," Binder reports.

AZ Poll: Martha McSally Solidifying Lead Over Kyrsten Sinema for U.S. Senate

By Rick Pearcey • November 1, 2018, 01:27 PM

Hank Berrien reports at Daily Wire:

A new poll released on Thursday from ABC15 Arizona and OH Predictive Insights shows Arizona Congresswoman Martha McSally solidifying her lead in the close senatorial race against Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema.

The poll found McSally garnering 52% of the vote while Sinema got 45%. 2% of voters were undecided; 1% said they'd vote for Green Party candidate Angela Green.

"Mike Noble, the head pollster for OH Predictive Insights, said the key factors in the race are the recent confirmation fight over Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court and the migrant caravan headed to the United States," according to Berrien.

"With the migrant caravan headed for the United States, McSally has been focusing on the issue," Berrien reports.

"Every single day, everywhere I go, people are asking me about the caravan," McSally is quoted as saying. "Every single day, they are asking about what we are doing to secure our border."

Daily Wire also reports that McSally "held a news conference Tuesday in Mesa, where three members of 'angel families,' people whose relatives had been killed by illegal immigrants, offered their endorsements of her."
