"Empire" Ratings Crash to All-Time Low After Jussie Smollett Charges Dropped

By Rick Pearcey • March 28, 2019, 07:15 PM

Justin Caruso reports at Breitbart:

Ratings for the FOX drama Empire crashed to an all-time low on Wednesday following the abrupt decision by the Cook County prosecutor to drop all charges against the show's embattled star Jussie Smollett.

According to TVLine, Wednesday night's episode of Empire dropped to 3.97 million viewers. This all-time low follows last week's low performance of only 4 million total viewers.

The ratings for the Fox drama have been in a free fall since Smollett allegedly planned a hoax attack against himself.

Two weeks ago, the show's fifth season debut episode dropped 35 percent in the ratings compared to last year.

"Indefensible" Smollett Deal Lands Soros-Backed Prosecutor Kim Foxx on Hot Seat

By Rick Pearcey • March 27, 2019, 04:45 PM

Valerie Richardson reports at the WTimes:

She officially recused herself from the Jussie Smollett case, but Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx has come under fire after her office made the stunning decision to drop all charges against the celebrity actor accused of orchestrating an elaborate hate crimes hoax.

The Chicago police union reiterated calls Wednesday for a federal investigation into Ms. Foxx's handling of the case, starting with her behind-the-scenes contact with the police chief on the Smollett family's behalf after being contacted by Tina Tchen, a onetime aide to former first lady Michelle Obama.

"It's outrageous, but this is nothing new for Kim Foxx," said Martin Preib, Fraternal Order of Police [FOP] Chicago Lodge 7 second vice president. "We've been complaining about her for two years on so many levels. Her office is just completely out of control."
. . .

"This isn't the first time police have locked horns with Ms. Foxx, a Democrat who rode public outrage over the 2014 police shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald by a white police officer to her 2016 election victory," Richardson reports.

"Foxx's campaign was bankrolled in large part by Illinois Safety & Justice, which was funded with $408,000 from Democratic mega-donor George Soros," according to Richardson, as "part of an effort in at least 20 jurisdictions to elect progressive and minority prosecutors following the 2014 Ferguson shooting."

Kim Foxx's "election was part of a national campaign by the radical left to impose their people in key prosecutor spots, a move to fight the system from within," Richardson quotes the FOP as saying on facebook March 8.

Trump: Phony Investigation Started "Very High Up" in Obama Administration

By Rick Pearcey • March 26, 2019, 05:56 PM

Charles Spierling reports at Breitbart:

President Donald Trump said it was a "disgrace" that the phony investigation of his campaign for colluding with Russia began in President Barack Obam'’s administration.

"It went very high up, and it started fairly low, but with instructions from the high up," Trump said to reporters Tuesday. "This should never happen to a president again, we cannot allow that to take place."

Brit Hume Scorches Colleagues: "Russia Collusion" the "Worst Journalistic Debacle of My Lifetime"

By Rick Pearcey • March 25, 2019, 05:39 PM

"After more than half-a-million web articles on 'Russia collusion' generating nearly a quarter of a billion interactions on Facebook and Twitter, the media need to do some serious 'soul searching,' contends veteran newsman Brit Hume," reports Art Moore at WND.

"It is the worst journalistic debacle of my lifetime, and I've been in this business about 50 years," Moore quotes Hume as saying during an interview with Sandra Smith of Fox News.

"Hume was reacting to special counsel Robert Mueller's conclusion after nearly two years of investigation that the Trump campaign did not collude with the Russian government to win the 2016 presidential election," Moore writes. "The special counsel also found no evidence that the president obstructed justice," Moore reports.

"I've never seen anything quite this bad last this long," Hume said, according to Moore.

"It was a terrible thing" and "needs to be investigated, Hume continued, Moore reports. "There needs to be a lot of soul searching among leading members of the media today and going forward."

Hume also "said Congress needs to investigate the behavior of the FBI and the Justice Department 'leading up to this getting started'," Moore reports.

"How in the world did several major news organs, networks, newspapers, and so on, devote so much time to what turned out to be utterly baseless speculation about the most serious crime you could imagine, mounting in some cases to the accusation of treason?" Hume asked, according to Moore.

New Zealand's Knee-Jerk Gun Ban Is Exactly Why We Have 2nd Amendment

By Rick Pearcey • March 21, 2019, 01:23 PM

Nate Madden writes at Conservative Review:

Thank goodness we have the Second Amendment. . . . I'm especially grateful after seeing the latest news out of New Zealand.

Less than a week after the mosque shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand has moved to ban and confiscate semi-automatic long guns.

The bill bans so-called "military style semi-automatic firearms," which according to the bill are any rifle or shotgun that accepts a detachable magazine that holds more than five rounds.

But .22 and smaller-caliber arms are exempt, so everybody's varmint guns are safe.

And, according to reports, the legal owners of now-illegal hardware will be entitled to "fair and reasonable" compensation through a buyback program that's expected to cost a couple hundred million dollars.

"Gun bans like this frequently follow on the heels of a heinous violent crime, when people are thinking least clearly about the issue," Madden explains. "We don't think clearly when we're dealing with grief and trauma. That's just a fact."

In addition, Madden writes, "Just as it's common for individuals to make sweeping, ill-advised life changes in the wake of personal tragedies, it's possible for large groups of people to do ill-advised things in the wake of public tragedies, like give up their ability to defend themselves."

That, Madden asserts, is "what happened with Britain's big gun ban in the 1990s, the same with Australia, and the same now with New Zealand. And it's the exact tactic the anti-gunners in this country employ when they immediately try to use human suffering to push for more gun control. It took New Zealand less than a week to enact this gun-grab."

Madden concludes: "For the record, once again: Gun bans only affect the law-abiding; the best defense against a bad guy with a gun is the ability to fire back; and the warm and fuzzy feeling people might get from passing new gun control laws won't stop a bullet when a wicked person breaks them."

South Carolina Democrats Fighting to Prevent Universities From Teaching the Constitution

By Rick Pearcey • March 20, 2019, 06:06 PM

Anders Hagstrom reports at Daily Caller:

South Carolina Democrats argued for more than an hour to prevent legislation that would require state universities to teach a "Constitution 101" course. . . .

The Republican-proposed bill would update an existing 1924 requirement to teach the course, which the University of South Carolina [USC] has hitherto ignored.

The legislation has already passed in the Senate, but Democrats in a Tuesday House subcommittee hearing argued the update would be too burdensome on students both financially and academically.

The bill would require students to take a 3-credit, semester-long class covering America's founding documents, including the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Federalist Papers.

"Democratic South Carolina State Reps. Ivory Thigpen and Wendy Brawley argued the cost of the course, which Thigpen referred to as "Constitution 101," may be transferred onto students," Hagstrom writes.

The two Democrats "also pointed to a representative from USC who argued against the bill's requirement that students pass a comprehensive exam covering the course material to graduate," Hagstrom reports.

Republican South Carolina State Rep. Garry Smith, however, "pointed to several classes not required by law that USC could stop offering if it wanted to cut costs, such as a class on "Global Citizenship," according to Hagstrom.

"I would argue that if you can't pass a comprehensive exam on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, then maybe you shouldn't graduate," Smith said, Hagstrom reports.

Trump to International Criminal Court: Don't Touch Our Servicemen -- or Else

By Rick Pearcey • March 19, 2019, 06:27 PM

Peter Skurkiss writes at American Thinker:

Last week, the Trump administration in the person of secretary of state Mike Pompeo gave the European international set another swift and deserved kick in the derrière.

That's when the secretary of state made it known that the U.S. will not grant visas to members of the International Criminal Court (ICC) who attempt to come here to investigate any alleged war crimes by members of the American military in Afghanistan.

The ICC has been making noises to that effect. Pompeo also said economic sanctions could follow if the ICC persists.

Google Goes Orwell: Erasing Photo of Climate Dissident From History as Co-Founder of Greenpeace

By Rick Pearcey • March 18, 2019, 05:01 PM

Thomas Lifson writes at American Thinker:

It's starting to look as if Google's executives see George Orwell's 1984 as a how-to manual.

One of the most famous citations from that work reads: "Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past."

That helpful hint (for totalitarians) perfectly matches what the tech tyrants have just done to Patrick Moore, one of the founders of Greenpeace, a man who now warns against the dangers of demonizing CO2 and carbon as the source of the purported climate change that shows up only after ground station temperatures have been "adjusted" (always in the direction of indicating warming now) . . . .

"Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google and current president of Alphabet, the corporate parent of the entire empire, spent the first six years of his life in the USSR, where he may have been so amazingly precocious that he picked up a trick from that nation's history under Stalin, Lifson suggests. "Except that Stalin's henchmen faced the challenge of artistically airbrushing the Kremlin officials out of photographs with Stalin when they fell out of favor with the tyrant."

14 Media Outlets Spread Hoax About Trump Calling for Violence During Breitbart News Interview

By Rick Pearcey • March 15, 2019, 04:31 PM

John Nolte writes at Breitbart:

The establishment media are deliberately spreading fake news about President Trump, saying he called for violence during his interview with Breitbart News.

Outside of the usual-usual fake news to damage Trump and to distract from their failing Russia Collusion Hoax, the media's propaganda effort here is to make Trump pay a political price for daring to sit down with an alternative news outlet like Breitbart News and to warn other politicians not to violate the rules about who is "supposed" to be allowed to hold high-profile interviews.

In this particular case, because the president said nothing wrong in his interview with us, the media have been forced to invent something.

"Case in point," Nolte continues, is "all this nonsense about Trump calling for violence. Here's what Trump actually said," according to Nolte:

"So here’s the thing -- it's so terrible what's happening," Trump said when asked by Breitbart News Deputy Political Editor Amanda House about his anticipated executive order on campus free speech.

"You know, the left plays a tougher game, it's very funny. I actually think that the people on the right are tougher, but they don't play it tougher. Okay?

"I can tell you I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump -- I have the tough people, but they don't play it tough -- until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad.

"But the left plays it cuter and tougher. Like with all the nonsense that they do in Congress . . . with all this invest[igations] -- that's all they want to do is -- you know, they do things that are nasty. Republicans never played this."

About this, Nolte writes: "I don't care how many times you read that, there is nothing there -- not a word, not a peep, not anything that has anything to do with violence of any kind, nothing even close to Barack Obama's actual calls to violence with his rhetoric about bringing a gun to a knife fight or punching back twice as hard, which everyone in the media wrote off as political rhetoric . . . ."

Eco-Marxism: Socialist Extremists Pushing Green-Deal Students to Strike for Red Across America

By Rick Pearcey • March 14, 2019, 06:01 PM

Brian Sussman writes at WND:

This Friday thousands of students across America will walk out of school in the name of human-caused global warming.

It's called the U.S. Youth Climate Strike, part of a global student movement inspired by socialist radicals in Europe.

As a guy who used to interpret weather data for a living, allow me to assure you there is no impending global climate emergency.

What should be treated as an emergency is the green brainwashing of the millennial generation.

They've sucked up Al Gore's big bag of hot air, held their collective breath, and now they're turning red. Red, as in Marxism, socialism and communism.

As I state in my 2012 best-seller, Eco-Tyranny: How the Left’s Green Agenda Will Dismantle America, Karl Marx perceived the environment as an effective tool to push his anti-capitalist, anti-God agenda.

"How Many More?": Police Chief Blasts Sanctuary Policies After Illegal Immigrant Charged With Murder

By Rick Pearcey • March 13, 2019, 01:19 PM

Lucia Suarez Song reports at Fox News:

The San Jose police chief blasted California's sanctuary city policies Tuesday after a previously deported illegal immigrant with a long rap sheet was arrested for murder in the brutal stabbing of a 59-year-old woman.

Chief Eddie Garcia said the murder of Bambi Larson, who was killed inside her home Thursday afternoon, demands that police and the county have an honest conversation over the refusal to honor U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer requests for violent criminals.

"This isn't about politics, this is about public safety," Garcia said during a press conference Tuesday, during which he also spoke about the arrest of 24-year-old Carlos Eduardo Arevalo Carranza. "He could have been turned over six times."

Anthony Borges -- Barça Fan and Hero of Florida School Shooting -- Invited to Barcelona to Make Dream Come True

By Rick Pearcey • March 12, 2019, 06:04 PM

At the FC Barcelona website:

Anthony Borges, the Barça fan who was the hero of the Florida school shooting on 14 February 2018 when he saved the lives of 20 fellow pupils, is in Barcelona as a guest of FC Barcelona to experience both the city itself and the second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie against Olympique Lyonnais at Camp Nou. For Borges it is a dream come true to travel to Barcelona to [meet] his Barça heroes and see a game in the flesh as the Florida hero and his family will visit the FC Barcelona Museum and other attractions in the city. . . .

Borges acted in the most heroic of manners when an armed gunman burst into the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The attacker opened fire on several of Borges' classmates and the youngster, aware of the danger, locked himself and other students in to a classroom to avoid the gunman. The killer tried to get into the room but Anthony blocked the door to prevent him from entering. The assailant, a former student of the school, fired various times hitting Anthony with five bullets in his back and limbs. Thanks to his bravery, his schoolmates escaped the attack unharmed.

As the Democrats Go Socialist, They Go Anti-Semitic

By Rick Pearcey • March 11, 2019, 06:23 PM

Daniel Greenfield writes at Frontpagemag.com:

"Every government having regard to good morals ought to repress the Jews," opined Pierre Leroux, the leftist credited with coining the term Socialism.

"When we speak of Jews, we mean the Jewish spirit, the spirit of profit, of lucre, of gain, the spirit of commerce."

"What is the worldly religion of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly God? Money," Karl Marx ranted.

"American socialism traces its ideological ancestry to Charles Fourier, a French socialist bigot who declared that Jews were the embodiment of capitalism, 'parasites, merchants, usurers,' and the 'incarnation of commerce: parasitical, deceitful, traitorous and unproductive'," Greenfield continues.

"Even the term anti-Semite was popularized by Wilhelm Marr, the socialist founder of the League of Antisemites," Greenfield writes.

"The inventor of anti-Semitism's arguments were the same ones put forward by Marx, Fourier, H.G. Wells, Lenin and countless other socialists," according to Greenfield.

Thus: "The Jews were all about the 'Benjamins.' They started wars. They were disloyal and manipulated society. They were a dangerous foreign element."

Greenfield connects the dots: "These are the same tropes that were put forward by Rep. Ilhan Omar and defended by her socialist allies in the House Progressive Caucus and across the media."

Moving deeper, "anti-Semitism is one of the meeting points between socialists and Islamists. The more anti-Semitism she spews, the more Rep. Omar unites the identity politics caucus of minority group racial nationalists and Islamists, with the traditional Left," Greenfield explains.

Extremist Indoctrination in Classrooms Gets Green Light From GOP Legislators

By Rick Pearcey • March 8, 2019, 03:07 PM

Lawrence Lockman writes at Frontpagemag.con:

Should teachers in Maine's public schools be allowed to push partisan politics and ideology in the classroom?

I don't think so, and neither do many parents who have contacted me. That's why I sponsored LD 589, proposed legislation directing the state board of education to draft a Code of Ethics for K-12 teachers.

Simply put, the Code of Ethics would forbid teachers from endorsing candidates as part of their classroom instruction, from introducing controversial material not germane to the subject being taught, and generally from using their classrooms as bully pulpits for political, social or religious advocacy . . . .

"There's abundant evidence that students in Maine's K-12 government schools are being subjected to Leftist indoctrination in the classroom," Lockman writes.

"'Progressive' teachers, administrators, and textbook publishers have been working overtime to ensure that students practice 'correct thinking' on subjects such as racial guilt, gender identity, illegal immigration, and other controversial issues," Lockman states.

"As soon as the Code of Ethics bill was referred to the Education committee for a public hearing in late February, all the usual suspects announced their opposition," Lockman continues.

"The head of the statewide teachers' union insisted that teachers never engage in political advocacy in the classroom, while the far-Left ACLU defended the right of teachers to do exactly that," Lockman notes.

Alabama Court Recognizes Aborted Baby as Legal Person, Lets Wrongful Death Suit Proceed

By Rick Pearcey • March 7, 2019, 06:12 PM

Calvin Freiburger writes at LifeSiteNews:

Personhood Alabama and a father whose baby was aborted against his will won a legal victory Tuesday with a probate judge formally recognizing Ryan Magers' child as a legal person, allowing his case against the abortion center responsible to proceed.

Last month, Magers filed a suit against the Alabama Women’s Center for Reproductive Alternatives (AWC) abortion facility, seeking damages for the 2017 abortion of his and his girlfriend’s six-week-old child, dubbed Baby Roe.

The suit is targeting AWC, three unnamed workers associated with it, and the pharmaceutical company responsible for the abortion pill AWC dispensed to Baby Roe's mother.

Women's March Co-Leader Linda Sarsour Refuses to Acknowledge Israel's Right to Exist -- Video

By Rick Pearcey • March 6, 2019, 06:09 PM

Joshua Caplan reports at Breitbart

Women's March co-leader Linda Sarsour on Wednesday refused to respond when asked if Israel has the right to exist after promising to answer the question following a Washington, D.C., rally in support of Rep. Ilhal Omar (D-MN), who is under fire for repeated antisemitic remarks.

In exclusive footage captured by Breitbart News, videographer Matthew Perdie confronts Sarsour on whether she believes the Jewish state and the Middle East's sole democracy has the right to exist.

"We'll answer questions later, after the press conference," Sarsour responds, adding, "I'll be happy to answer that."

"In a subsequent clip, Sarsour and her entourage begin walking away from the pro-Omar event, held near the U.S. Supreme Court, almost immediately after her remarks, refusing to acknowledge Perdie as he repeats his question about Israell," Caplan reports.

"An associate then physically blocks Perdie from approaching the activist," Caplan writes. "Several men begin pushing the videographer and peppering him with questions on why he attended the pro-Omar event -- and if he receives compensation from Israel."

"Why are you here?" Caplan quotes a man as asking the videographer. "Do you work for Israel?" the man asks, according to Caplan. "before inquiring how much the videographer is paid."

Caplan reports that "Footage of the testy encounter ends with Perdie noting that Sarsour declined to answer the question despite saying she would oblige."

Venezuela's Maduro Has a Choice: Leave on His Own -- or With a Military Escort

By Rick Pearcey • March 5, 2019, 06:38 PM

At Investor's Business Daily:

"Maduro must go," Vice President Mike Pence said, following talks with Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido about how to best get rid of that country's socialist dictator who has presided over the collapse of a once-wealthy country. Pence is right of course. But it may be easier said than done.

President Trump supports Guaido "100%," Pence said. And on this major diplomatic point, Trump's not alone. Some 50 countries support Guaido as the legitimate leader of troubled Venezuela, given that the previous election of President Nicolas Maduro was clearly fraudulent and rigged.

And, indeed, Guaido is legitimate. He's the leader of Venezuela's National Assembly. He became acting president . . . in January after the legislature declared Maduro's election fraudulent. Under Venezuelan law, the National Assembly can name a new president.

"But getting Maduro to go might be tough," IBD continues.

"The greatest concern is that, as with Italy during World War II, Maduro will be forced out and left to the tender mercies of an angry mob. Not the ideal way to start anew if you're a hopeful, forward-looking nation."

Female Olympian: Transgenders Should Not Be Able to Compete in Women's Sport

By Rick Pearcey • March 4, 2019, 04:23 PM

Michael Chapman reports at CNSNews.com

Following on the heels of tennis legend Martina Navratilova, who condemned the idea of transgender "women" competing against real woman as "unfair" and "insane," Olympics swimming champion Sharron Davies, MBE tweeted that such "women" with a "male sex advantage" should not be allowed to compete in women's sport . . . .

Sharron Davies, MBE, is a former competitive swimmer for Great Britain, who won the silver medal in the individual medley at the 1980 Olympics. She also won two gold medals at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. She has worked as a sports presenter on British television for many years.

In a March 1 tweet, Davies said, "I have nothing against anyone who wishes 2be transgender. However I believe there is a fundamental difference between the binary sex u r born with & the gender u may identify as."

"To protect women's sport those with a male sex advantage should not be able 2compete in women's sport," Davies tweeted, according to Chapman.

"In another tweet on March 2, she wrote, 'We all have a right to our opinions & respect from others but females athletes also have a right to a level playing field #FairPlay'," Chapman reports.

Maryland Sheriff on Restrictive Gun Bill: "We Will Not Comply"

By Rick Pearcey • March 1, 2019, 03:39 PM

A.W.R. Hawkins reports at Breitbart:

Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis says he and his deputies "will not comply" if Maryland lawmakers follow through with a long gun licensing and confiscation law.

Lewis told Delmarva Now that he believes lawmakers are punishing residents throughout the state for the out-of-control crime in Baltimore.

He said, "Law-abiding citizens are repeatedly being penalized because of Baltimore City's inability to control their crime. And I'm sorry -- I'm not someone's puppet. I'm going to stand up for what I think is unjust and unconstitutional to the American people, including those living in the state in Maryland."

"We're gonna let them know that we are sick and tired of being penalized for Baltimore City's inability to control crime," the sheriff said, according to Breitbart.

"If these bills pass, we will not comply."
