Why Doesn't Bernie Sanders Release His Tax Records?

By Rick Pearcey • February 28, 2019, 04:32 PM

Liz Peek writes at Fox News:

Is Bernie Sanders hiding something? You have to wonder.

The democratic socialist senator from Vermont, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, claims he is happy to show voters his tax returns . . . but, pressed on the subject, continues to stall.

Asked in a CNN town hall whether he, like Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., would release a decade of his personal finance records, Sanders said he would, "sooner than later," but assured Wolf Blitzer that his "tax returns will bore you to death, nothing special about them."

That may be, but his reluctance to open his tax filings to the public, after he and fellow Democrats have sharply criticized President Trump for not releasing his tax records, makes us ponder what Sanders may not want to share.

"Flawed" and "Dishonest": U.K. "State of Hate" Report Ignores Leftist Hate

By Rick Pearcey • February 26, 2019, 01:54 PM

Paula Boddington writes at Frontpagmag.com:

The organization Hope Not Hate was founded in the UK in 2004 "to provide a positive antidote to the politics of hate," in its own words. On February 18th it released its annual "State of Hate" Report, described as a "guide to what the far right has been up to." It is uncertain why the far left is excluded from the group's investigation of "hate"; indeed, the criteria for inclusion or exclusion of the groups and individuals who figure in this report is unclear. A rag-bag of disparate groups and individuals are included, ranging from men with gripes about feminism, Nazi Satanists, and legally registered political parties.

Hope Not Hate is an influential group, frequently advising the media including TV programs, with its research often cited by academics who may then advise governments, regulators and social media companies. The "State of Hate" report has had considerable media coverage. It paints a gloomy portrait of a rudderless, angry, far right which are allegedly on the rise in the UK, fueled by disenchantment with politics, and where an anti-Muslim rhetoric has replaced an anti-immigrant rhetoric.

"Conducting this kind of social research is extremely complex and difficult," Boddington observes.

"It's hard enough to get a good picture of outward behavior, let alone to determine people's true motivation and attitudes," Boddington writes.

"Hope Not Hate's report is methodologically limited and conceptually flawed, yet they exercise no caution in attributing 'hate' to thousands upon thousands of individuals," Boddington states.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Has a Serious Billionaire Problem

By Rick Pearcey • February 25, 2019, 04:35 PM

Investor's Business Daily notes

Democrats have recently discovered a new threat to the American way of life: billionaires.

An interviewer recently asked socialist Ocasio-Cortez: "Do we live in a moral world that allows for billionaires? Is that a moral outcome?"

Her answer: "No, it's not. It's not. It's not. And I think it's important to say that."

Her policy advisor, Dan Riffle, said that "every billionaire is a policy failure."

Not to be outdone, fellow socialist and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders complained that "We live in a nation owned and controlled by a small number of multibillionaires whose greed, incredible greed, insatiable greed, is having an unbelievably negative impact on the fabric of our entire country."

Elizabeth Warren calls billionaires "freeloaders" who don't "pick up their fair share."

Video: Activist Tells Hannity About Alleged Assault on UC-Berkeley Campus

By Rick Pearcey • February 22, 2019, 09:57 AM

Victor Garcia repots at Fox News:

A conservative activist whose brutal pummeling at Cal-Berkeley was caught on cell phone video told Sean Hannity Thursday he has no doubt that it was his political beliefs that prompted the attack.

Hayden Williams said Tuesday's violent attack at the hands of an unidentified suspect on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley started when the assailant ironically accused him of promoting aggression.

"This person claimed we were promoting violence on campus and proceeded to take his aggression out on us," Williams told Hannity.

Williams sported a black eye while appearing on the show, the result of being violently punched in the face while helping conservative group Turning Point USA recruit members.

Kentucky Senate: 2nd Amendment Is Your Concealed Carry Permit

By Rick Pearcey • February 20, 2019, 04:31 PM

A.W.R. Hawkins reports at Breitbart:

The Kentucky Senate passed a bill late last week to eliminate the state's concealed carry permit requirement. The bill, SB 150, now heads to the Kentucky House.

The NRA-ILA reports that SB 150 is sponsored by Senator Brandon Smith (R-30), and it passed the Senate by a vote of 29-8.

WBKO reports that the text of SB 150 makes clear the bill is designed to "allow concealed deadly weapons to be carried by persons age 21 and over without a license in same locations where concealed carry license holders may carry them."

"On January 31, 2019, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) signed legislation to end her state's concealed carry permit requirement," Hawkins reports. "In so doing she made South Dakota the 14th state to recognize the Second Amendment as a sufficient carry permit."

According to Hawkins, "Kentucky is now vying to be the 15th state to do away with any requirement to obtain government permission before exercising the right to bear arms."

Tennis Legend Navratilova on Trans Athletes: "It's Insane and It's Cheating"

By Rick Pearcey • February 19, 2019, 01:59 PM

Michael Chapman reports at CNSNews.com:

Martina Navratilova, who won multiple Wimbledon and U.S. Open titles and is considered among the best female tennis players in history, denounced the idea that transgender females -- men who claim they are women -- can compete fairly in women's sports, stating "it's insane and it's cheating."

"[I]t is surely unfair on women who have to compete against people who, biologically, are still men," she wrote in The Sunday Times on Feb. 17. "[F]airness should always be valued and strived for" and "unfairness introduced through human action and chemical means should be condemned and outlawed."

Al Sharpton Backs Away From Smollett, Decades After Tawana Brawley Fiasco

By Rick Pearcey • February 18, 2019, 04:20 PM

Brian Flood reports at Fox News:

When "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett said he was attacked by two masked men yelling racist and homophobic epithets, as well as "This is MAGA country," MSNBC host Al Sharpton came out in support of the star.

But amid multiple reports this weekend that Smollett may have been involved in orchestrating the attack, Sharpton, who made his name in the 1980s as the spokesperson for Tawana Brawley in what turned out to be false claims she was raped by four white men, changed his tune on-air on Sunday.

"If it is found that Smollett and these gentlemen did, in some way, perpetrate something that is not true, they ought to face accountability to the maximum," Sharpton said referring to the actor and two men linked to him who have been questioned by police.

"Let us get to the bottom of it, and let justice be done, no matter who is right or wrong," Sharpton said, according to Fox News.

Poll: 77% of Voters Support Protecting Babies Who Survive Abortion

By Rick Pearcey • February 14, 2019, 05:02 PM

Dr. Susan Berry reports at Breitbart:

A new poll released by the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) finds 77 percent of voters support legislation to ensure a baby who survives a failed abortion is given the same medical treatment as any other baby born prematurely at the same age
. . . .

When political party affiliation is a factor, 86 percent of Republicans support the legislation, as do 70 percent of Democrats, and 75 percent of independents. . . .

According to the poll, 75 percent of women and 79 percent of men support the legislation.

"Americans overwhelmingly reject the Democratic Party's extreme agenda of abortion on demand through birth and even beyond," says SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, according to Breitbart.

"Three in four voters agree babies born alive during a failed abortion should be protected in law, and nearly two-thirds oppose efforts to allow late-term abortion even at the moment of delivery, like those in Virginia and New York," Dannenfester says, Breitbart reports.

"Democrats -- many of whom receive political contributions from key abortion industry giants like Planned Parenthood -- have made abortion a central plank of their party's platform," Breitbart reports.

Packing Heat on Campus: Florida Schools Get Armed

By Rick Pearcey • February 13, 2019, 03:59 PM

Joe Kovacs reports at WND:

There's something new seen in the halls of Florida schools this year: guns out in the open.

Packing heat on the campus of the Manatee School for the Arts in Palmetto, Florida, is Harold Verdecia, a 39-year-old former infantryman in the U.S. Army, who completed tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Armed with a Kel-Tec "Bullpup" rifle and a 9mm Glock 19X, Verdecia has been hired by the school with the sole responsibility of stopping an active shooter.

More than 2,000 students attend MSA, and Verdecia says he gets complimented frequently by many of them.

"They come and thank me all the time," he says on this video posted by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

More Than 1,000 Ph.D. Scientists "Skeptical" of Darwinian Evolution

By Rick Pearcey • February 12, 2019, 04:33 PM

Tyler O'Neil writes at PJMedia:

On the 210th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birthday, the Discovery Institute is going public with a list of more than 1,000 Ph.D. scientists who declared their skepticism toward Darwin's mechanism for evolution: natural selection acting on random mutation. This mechanism is the centerpiece of Neodarwinism, the current but eroding consensus on how evolution took place.

"We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged,"the statement reads.

The Discovery Institute released a video of 19 scientists reading the statement [watch the video].

"Our statement is not anti-evolution, it's on what is the mechanism," John West of the Discovery Institute is quoted as telling PJMedia yesterday.

According to PJMedia, West says the list arose in 2001 in "response to claims that were frequently parroted by the media that there are no scientists who raise questions about Darwinian theory."

Another Woman Accuses VA Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of Raping Her in College

By Rick Pearcey • February 8, 2019, 06:45 PM

Joshua Caplan reports at Breitbart:

A second woman has come forward with an allegation of sexual assault against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D-VA), claiming the embattled Virginia Democrat raped her while they were in college in 2000.

In a statement through her lawyer, the accuser, Meredith Watson said she confided in classmates about the alleged incident immediately after it occurred, and shared her account with others in emails and Facebook messages.

According to Watson, while she and Fairfax were friends at Duke University, the two had not dated or been intimate prior to the alleged incident.

"At this time, Ms. Watson is reluctantly coming forward out of a strong sense of civic duty and her belief that those seeking or serving in public office should be of the highest character," Breitbart quotes Watson's legal representation, Nancy Erika Smith, as saying today.

"She has no interest in becoming a media personality or reliving the trauma that has greatly affected her life. Similarly, she is not seeking any financial damages," Smith says, according to Breitbart.

"Massive Gov't Intervention": Socialist Ocasio-Cortez Unveils New Green Deal for "Economic Transformation"

By Rick Pearcey • February 7, 2019, 03:41 PM

Penny Starr reports at Breitbart:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), a self-described Democratic Socialist, introduced the Green New Deal on Thursday, which is a resolution that calls for transforming the United States economy.

Ocasio-Cortez gave her plan first to National Public Radio (NPR), which called her "the most famous member of Congress" and "a media star" in an interview aired on Thursday.

"Even the solutions that we have considered big and bold are nowhere near the scale of the actual problem that climate change presents to us," Ocasio-Cortez told NPR on Morning Edition. . . .

"The resolution, which provides no specifics for how to achieve or pay for its broad goals -- 'net-zero emissions by 2050,' 'wage and benefit parity for workers,' 'counteract[ing] systemic injustices,' 'repairing historic oppression of indigenous communities, communities of color, migrant communities, deindustrialized communities,' and universal health care -- has 50 Democrat cosponsors, according to NPR," Starr reports.

"NPR asked Ocasio-Cortez if she would agree that her resolution calls for 'massive government intervention' to reach its goals," according to Starr.

"It does. I have no problem saying that," Breitbart quotes Ocasio-Cortez as saying and "adding that the private sector has failed to address climate change."

Christian University Bans Ben Shapiro

By Rick Pearcey • February 4, 2019, 05:29 PM

Celine Ryan reports at Campus Reform:

A private Christian university announced it is canceling a student-organized speaking engagement by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, citing a "current high volume of rhetoric."

In a Friday statement, Arizona's Grand Canyon University [GCU] explained the rationale behind its decision to cancel the event, organized by the school's Young Americans for Freedom [YAF] chapter.

The university said that while its mission often aligns with Shapiro's message, specifically regarding his emphasis on Judeo-Christian values and the importance of a free market economy, the school has decided to bar him from speaking in order "to focus on opportunities that bring people together."

"By caving to an unseen mob and ignoring the popularity of Shapiro among its student body, Grand Canyon University just played itself and deserves whatever negative response this brings,” said YAF spokesman Spencer Brown in a statement last Friday, according to Campus Reform.

"GCU has abandoned the sentiment of its own proclaimed values, deluded itself into acting like the liberal campuses it claims to differ from, and blindly accepted the Left's ludicrous argument that Shapiro's presence somehow damages students, campuses, or debate," Brown said, CR reports.
