From Stephen King to Francis Schaeffer: Cosmos "Suggests Intelligent Design"

By Rick Pearcey • May 31, 2013, 11:16 AM

National Public Radio aired an interview with best-selling novelist Stephen King last Wednesday (May 29), and during the interview King discusses "his belief in God and whether it has changed over time." King said:

"I choose to believe it. . . . I mean, there's no downside to that. If you say, 'Well, OK, I don't believe in God. There's no evidence of God,' then you're missing the stars in the sky and you're missing the sunrises and sunsets and you're missing the fact that bees pollinate all these crops and keep us alive and the way that everything seems to work together. Everything is sort of built in a way that to me suggests intelligent design.

"But, at the same time, there's a lot of things in life where you say to yourself, 'Well, if this is God's plan, it's very peculiar,' and you have to wonder about that guy's personality -- the big guy's personality. And the thing is -- I may have told you last time that I believe in God -- what I'm saying now is I choose to believe in God, but I have serious doubts and I refuse to be pinned down to something that I said 10 or 12 years ago. I'm totally inconsistent."

King might also have mentioned books as evidence of intelligent design. Certainly, a few of these would qualify!

In regard to "having to wonder" about God's "personality," in light of a "lot of things in life," this very reasonable question is discussed by former agnostic Francis Schaeffer is his lecture on "Basic Philosophical Questions," which you can download here.

King's new novel, Joyland, is set to be released June 4.

NYTimes, AP Stiffing "Scandal-Generating" Eric Holder

By Rick Pearcey • May 30, 2013, 10:56 AM

Neil Munro writes at The Daily Caller:

Scandal-generating Attorney General Eric Holder is getting rejection notices from some established media companies who don’t want to attend a meeting apparently aimed at assuaging Holder’s "creeping sense of remorse" over his approval of police spying on reporters.

Both the Associated Press and the New York Times have announced they will not attend the event if it is off the record.

CNN announced May 30 it would boycott the meeting, if it is off-the-record.

The unprecedented meeting was scheduled by President Barack Obama in order to address the media’s anger over the discovery that Holder and his deputies had approved unprecedented surveillance of reporters working for AP and Fox News.

"Opposition from establishment media outlets is a strategic danger to Obama, who is trying to regain Democratic control of the House in November 2014 and pass a far-reaching immigration rewrite this year," Munro writes. "The tacit cooperation of the established media has until now been an essential asset for a president trying to push through an unpopular agenda amid massive federal deficit spending, a lousy economy and very high unemployment."

NFL MVP: Homosex "Marriage" . . . "Not Something I Believe In"

By Rick Pearcey • May 29, 2013, 10:22 AM

Eric Scheiner reports at CNSNews.com:

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson says when it comes to gay marriage, "That's not something I believe in."

Peterson made his comments in an interview Sunday with Bruce Murray and Amani Toomer of Sirius/XM NFL radio. The NFL MVP was discussing former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe, an advocate for gay rights and gay marriage, who was recently cut from the team.

Adrian Peterson stands in good company. The facts of biology, the liberating norms for healthy human sexuality, and the Creator himself support the pro-marriage stance Peterson has vocalized.

Cults of religion and politics that discriminate against male-female diversity, that are intolerant of holistic family life, and which hate the verifiable Creator -- who is the center of gravity for human freedom and human dignity (see the Declaration of Independence) -- will no doubt rant and rave about what really is merely Peterson's reaffirmation of the mainstream and humane position on real marriage, in contradistinction to its homosexualist counterfeit.

Let the extremists throw their fits. Free-thinkers follow the facts. Truth and love triumph over fear and hate and authoritarian political agendas. Well done, Mr. Peterson.

Daily Kos Writer Repudiates Support for "Lesbian" Kaitlyn Ashley Hunt

By Rick Pearcey • May 27, 2013, 09:23 AM

Robert Stacey McCain writes at American Spectator:

A staff writer for the prominent progressive site Daily Kos has repudiated her support for Kaitlyn Ashley Hunt, the Florida teenager whose sex crime case became a cause célèbre of the gay-rights movement in the past week. The 18-year-old on Friday rejected prosecutors’ offer of a plea bargain on charges of lewd and lascivious conduct with a 14-year-old girl, meaning the case could go to trial next month in Indian River County.

The story gained nationwide attention after Hunt’s family claimed Kaitlyn was a victim of anti-gay prejudice and launched a "Stop the Hate, Free Kate" campaign that has been supported by the American Civil Liberties Union, the gay-rights group Equality Florida, and the 501(c)3 non-profit Purpose Foundation. . . .

"Daily Kos journalist Joan McCarter had enthusiastically endorsed the 'Free Kate' movement, publishing a May 20 article that described Hunt as being victimized 'simply because . . . she fell in love with a younger girl who has vindictive bigots for parents'," McCain writes. "However, in an update appended to the article Thursday, McCarter admitted that 'public scrutiny of this case' had contradicted much of what inspired her original article."

Note: McCain's article contains sexually explicit language.

Woman Home Alone Opens Fire on Thugs

By Rick Pearcey • May 25, 2013, 02:17 PM

Jason Howerton reports at The Blaze:

A group of thugs figured it would be easy to overpower one Kansas City woman. After all, her husband had just left to run an errand, leaving her all alone in the home.

They couldn’t have been more wrong.

"Robert’s husband, Oscar Roberts, later said he and his wife have been going to the gun range to prepare for just that type of situation. “You’ve got to protect yourself,” he told KMBC-TV, The Blaze reports.

Here is a KMBC News video report on the incident.

Afghanistan Comes to London

By Rick Pearcey • May 23, 2013, 10:37 AM

Daniel Greenfield writes at Frontpagemag.com:

Five years ago, the sight of Muslim terrorists beheading British soldiers was a horror that could happen in Afghanistan or Iraq. Now it has happened in broad daylight in the capital of the United Kingdom.

In a decade, 600,000 white Londoners have fled the city. Those are the sorts of numbers you would expect from the Syrian civil war. Their place has been taken by the million Muslims occupying the city.

"The United Kingdom has become a civilized place," Greenfield writes. "Unfortunately its practice of importing savages makes that civilization of climbing roses and social progress unsustainable. If you import millions of people who follow a religion that sanctifies tribal violence, then you must expect tribal violence to tear apart what you have built."

Adios, CSCOPE: Texas Abolishes Pre-Fabricated Leftist Lesson Plans

By Rick Pearcey • May 21, 2013, 12:16 PM

Eric Owens reports at the Daily Caller:

The Texas Education Service Center Curriculum Collaborative -- the entity that administers CSCOPE -- announced Monday that it has agreed to cease production of lesson plans for its much-criticized online curriculum system.

Beginning Aug. 31, 2013, school districts in the Lone Star State will no longer be permitted to use any existing CSCOPE lesson plans. CSCOPE itself will be far from dead, however, and other features of curriculum system will continue unchanged. . . .

Critics had persistently protested that the curriculum is riddled with cultural relativism and downright leftist assumptions, particularly in history and social studies.

They pointed to lesson plans informing kids in the state’s public schools that Islam and communism are awesome.
. . . Students also learned that the Boston Tea Party was a terrorist attack, that Christianity is a cult and that a Malthusian population catastrophe is about to overtake the planet.

In another incident, a teacher in Lumberton using a CSCOPE lesson plan allowed three female students to dress up in full-length Islamic burqas and then instructed the entire class that Muslim terrorists are actually freedom fighters.

"Danelle Ivey, a former teacher and now a Texas school board watchdog, called Monday’s announcement a 'very interesting turn of events,' but noted that CSCOPE is by no means going to disappear," Owens reports.

"The big, obvious question, Ivey told The Daily Caller, is what happens after Aug. 31. She is optimistic that teachers will quickly learn to manage without prefabricated lesson plans," according to Owens.

Writing a lesson plan is a core competency of being a teacher; it’s not rocket science,” Ivey is quoted as saying. "It wasn’t a burden to be creative or to enrich lessons without the internet. It’s got to be a walk in the park today."

Comment: No properly self-respecting, curious professional teacher, in Texas or in any other state, will allow him or herself to rely on pre-fabricated lesson plans devised by some kind of centralized authority. This smacks of a blob-like, beehive approach to education that disrespects the God-given individuality and creativity of both students and teachers. The pursuit of excellence in education occurs on a higher, more humane plane.

It is crucial to acknowledge that human beings, created in the image of God, are called to think for themselves, to ask questions, and to examine facts and evidence carefully, and then follow that evidence wherever it might lead. Schools, therefore, whether public or private, ought to set people free on the basis of objective, knowable truth, not subject them to any kind of indoctrination, whether political, scientific, or theological (including especially those based on private, non-verifiable "revelations" or supposed "visions from God").

Abolish the IRS

By Rick Pearcey • May 20, 2013, 05:30 PM

Theo Caldwell writes at the Daily Caller:

As Congressman Dave Camp has observed, the tax code of the United States is now ten times as long as the Bible, with none of the good news. . . .

Recent news that the Internal Revenue Service has been enforcing its already inscrutable doctrine with caprice and venom -- directed at conservative groups, Republican donors, and supporters of Israel, among others -- confirms the worst suspicions of many Americans, of all political affiliations.

There is a lot of talk in Washington, and across the country, of a desire to reach bipartisan accord and accomplish great things. Here is an opportunity for just that.

"It is perhaps Victor Hugo’s best-known sentiment that nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come," Caldwell writes. "Hugo, who wrote timelessly and interminably on the vicissitudes of oppressive bureaucracy, included this aside in Les Miserables: 'It may be said, that there is one infallible thermometer of the public misery and riches -- the cost of collecting the taxes.'

"If that is true," Caldwell continues, "and accepting Hugo’s attendant observations that such cost is inversely proportionate to overall economic health, why not make taxation simple and transparent for everyone?

"One hopes he would agree that abolishing the IRS is an idea whose time has come."

Brazilians Fight Back as Regulatory Agency Tries to Impose Homosex "Marriage" on Entire Country

By Rick Pearcey • May 17, 2013, 10:19 AM

LifeSiteNews.com reports:

Brazilian pro-family politicians have announced that they will fight a decree issued by the country’s National Council of Justice (CNJ) that orders all of Brazil’s registrars to accept applications for homosexual "marriage" and threatens them with legal action if they refuse.

The decree, which was issued on May 14, claims to implement a 2011 decision by the country’s Supreme Federal Tribunal, which ruled that homosexual unions are eligible to be registered as "stable unions," similar to common-law marriages in Anglophone countries.

However, parliamentarians from the Social Christian Party and other pro-family representatives are crying foul, pointing out that the Tribunal’s decision does not mention "marriage." They say they intend to file suit with the Tribunal against the CNJ to nullify the decree.

IRS Boss in Charge When Targeting Tea Party Now Heads IRS Obamacare

By Rick Pearcey • May 16, 2013, 08:50 PM

Fox News reports:

Fox News learned Thursday night that the IRS official in charge of the tax-exempt office during the targeting of Tea Party groups, Sarah Hall Ingram, is now charge of the IRS' health care office.

Sarah Hall Ingram became Division Commissioner of the Tax Exempt & Government Entities (TE/GE) Division -- the head of the division that included the group that targeted Tea Party groups -- at the IRS in 2009, a congressional source told Fox News' Mike Emanuel.

Is the writing not on the wall? Everything the Obama administration does seems designed to consolidate and monopolize power in Washington, D.C.

And always in the name of something admirable, such as healthcare, for example. Or reproductive rights. Don't worry about minor details, such as losing one's freedom or of babies being butchered in the millions. Everybody knows those details are distractions.

Obama's fundamental transformation of America is extremism par excellence. It moves the United States from that of a nation rooted in freedom, under God, to that of a country rooted in control, under Washington.

A free-thinking people of self-determination and of dignity revolts.

Christian Leader Gunned Down by Islamists in Nigeria

By Rick Pearcey • May 16, 2013, 03:00 PM

Fox News reports:

A Nigerian Christian leader was killed when suspected Muslim militants burst into his home and shot him, as the religious fighting in Africa’s most populous nation continues to worsen.

Two members of Islamic militant group Boko Haram shot Faye Pama Mysa, a Pentecostal pastor and secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria, in his home Wednesday, according to multiple reports. The attack came just after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency because of ongoing attacks.

"Boko Haram translates to 'Western education is sacrilege'," Fox reports. "Christians have been a major target of Boko Haram and its offshoots, as scores of churches have been bombed or burned since the Islamists, who have links to Al Qaeda, launched their insurgency in 2009 in the predominantly Muslim north."

"Apolitical" IRS Official: Husband’s Law Firm Has Strong Obama Connections

By Rick Pearcey • May 16, 2013, 01:00 PM

Patrick Howley reports at the Daily Caller:

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) official who apologized for targeting conservative nonprofit groups for extra scrutiny is married to an attorney whose firm hosted a voter registration organizing event for the 2012 Obama re-election campaign, praised President Obama’s policy work, and had one of its partners appointed by Obama to a key ambassadorship.

IRS Exempt Organizations Division director Lois G. Lerner, who has been described as "apolitical" in [the formerly] mainstream press coverage of the IRS scandal, is married to tax attorney Michael R. Miles, a partner at the law firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan. The firm is based in Atlanta but has a number of offices including in Washington, D.C., where Miles works.

"The 400-attorney firm hosted an organizing meeting at its Atlanta office for people interested in helping with voter registration for the Obama re-election campaign," according to The Daily Caller.

"Come learn more about how you can create, organize, and host a voter registration event here in Atlanta in the coming weeks. We will be meeting at at 7:30pm at 999 Peachtree St. NE, in the law offices of Sutherland, Asbill, and Brennan," reads an event announcement posted at my.barackobama.com.

Stimulus: $152K to Get Lesbians Ready for "Adoptive Parenthood"

By Rick Pearcey • May 16, 2013, 09:23 AM

Elizabeth Harrington reports at CNSNews.com:

While the White House claims its stimulus package "supported as many as 3.5 million jobs," none were yielded from a $152,000 project to ready lesbians for "adoptive parenthood."

The $833 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), commonly known as the stimulus, awarded the tustees of Clark University, in Worcester, Mass., $152,000 to interview roughly 50 lesbian couples about their adoption experiences.

"The goal of this project is to investigate the unique strengths and potential challenges of lesbian couples across the transition to adoptive parenthood," the grant states.

"Given that parental mental health has implications for child development, and the fact that adoption can be a challenging process, it is important to understand these couples' adjustment to the parental role."

Placing children for adoption into what is by definition a counterfeit family structure demonstrates the fanaticism and extremism of the homosexualist agenda and those politicians who serve it.

CNN's Malveaux: White House Has Lost "Support" From Press Corps

By Rick Pearcey • May 15, 2013, 06:15 PM

Matt Hadro writes at Newsbusters:

On Wednesday's Around the World, CNN's Suzanne Malveaux admitted that the Obama administration has lost some media "support," noting "tension" between the White House and the press corps.

It is a step forward if indeed the Obama White House "has lost some media 'support'."

Having said that, we must also point out that journalism per se is not about supporting -- or not supporting -- a particular White House or administration. Rather, it is about facts and about holding people and power accountable in a free society.

This applies to the Obamas of the world, the Bushes of the world, and the Reagans of the world.

It is therefore a sign of the principial, structural corruption of the press's self-understanding that one can even talk about the possibility of a White House losing support among reporters.

Support or non-support should be a non-issue, for every properly self-respecting journalist should understand that his professional commitment limits his personal associations among politicians and others he might cover in reporting the news.

You don't become a journalist to become friends, allies, or cobelligerents with those whom you are supposed to be covering.

Rather, you become a journalist because you are passionately committed to truth based on factual evidence.

Your job as a reporter is to report the facts, and follow the facts, wherever they might lead.

This is true across the board, whether one is reporting on political leaders, captains of industry, entertainment personalities, academic elites, agents of social change, or Christian celebrities.

Excellence in the pursuit of fact-based reporting is the principial mainstream of journalism.

To act outside of this mainstream is to court extremism under the flag of journalism. It is a false flag. Hence the term the "formerly mainstream media."

A free society welcomes excellence in journalism. Antagonists of freedom do not.

Soros Gave $6.1 Million to Groups Linked to Pressure on IRS to Target Conservative Nonprofits

By Rick Pearcey • May 15, 2013, 04:45 PM

Mike Ciandella reports at CNSNews.com:

As IRS efforts targeting politically-conservative groups gained momentum, George Soros-funded liberal groups repeatedly called on the IRS to investigate conservative nonprofit organizations.

While the first reported instances of extra IRS scrutiny for conservative groups began in Cincinnati in March of 2010, the attacks began to pick up steam on a national level soon after Soros-funded groups began firing off letters to the IRS in October of that year -- following the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling.

The talking points of these groups then bounced around a carefully created progressive "echo chamber," until they eventually made their way into established media outlets. . . .

Homeschoolers Told: Go Back to Persecution

By Rick Pearcey • May 15, 2013, 09:44 AM

Bob Unruh reports at WND:

An appeal is planned for a family of homeschoolers the Obama administration wants to deport to their home country of Germany to face persecution from education officials there who seek fines and jail for such individuals.

The word comes . . . from officials with the Home School Legal Defense Association [HSLDA], who have been arguing on behalf of the Romeike family since they fled Germany in 2008 and were granted asylum in the U.S. in 2010 by Immigration Judge Lawrence O. Burman.

According to WND, "The Obama administration was unhappy with that decision and appealed, and the grant was rescinded by the Board of Immigration Appeals in 2012.

"A panel from the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently heard arguments on the dispute, and ruled today that the asylum request should be denied."

"We believe the Sixth Circuit is wrong, and we will appeal their decision," WND quotes HSLDA Founder and Chairman Michael Farris as saying. "America has room for this family, and we will do everything we can to help them."

"The court said that the Romeikes had not made a sufficient case, and that the United States has not opened its doors to every victim of unfair treatment," according to WND.

"While the judges admitted the U.S. Constitution recognizes the rights of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children," WND reports, "they refused to concede that the harsh treatment of religiously and philosophically motivated homeschoolers in Germany, including fines, jail and the loss of custody of their children, amounts to persecution within the laws on asylum."

Obama DOJ "Secretly Obtained" Press Phone Records for Two Months

By Rick Pearcey • May 13, 2013, 08:34 PM

AP reports:

The Justice Department secretly obtained two months of telephone records of reporters and editors for The Associated Press in what the news cooperative's top executive called a "massive and unprecedented intrusion" into how news organizations gather the news.

The records obtained by the Justice Department listed outgoing calls for the work and personal phone numbers of individual reporters, for general AP office numbers in New York, Washington and Hartford, Conn., and for the main number for the AP in the House of Representatives press gallery, according to attorneys for the AP.

According to AP, the federal "government seized the records for more than 20 separate telephone lines assigned to AP and its journalists in April and May of 2012. The exact number of journalists who used the phone lines during that period is unknown, but more than 100 journalists work in the offices where phone records were targeted, on a wide array of stories about government and other matters."

AP reports that it has sent a letter of protest saying, "There can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications of The Associated Press and its reporters."

The AP also report that the "government would not say why it sought the records."

Bachmann: Obama Admin Released IRS Bombshell to Distract From Benghazi Debacle

By Rick Pearcey • May 13, 2013, 12:27 PM

Bob Unruh reports at WND:

The Internal Revenue Service under the Obama administration -- described by Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., as the "most feared government agency" -- admitted Friday it targeted conservative and tea-party groups during last year’s election because of their politics.

Bachmann, a former tax attorney, told WND in an interview the IRS admission means the credibility of the 2012 election is in doubt.

Americans, she said, should be wondering whether Obamacare, which is to be enforced by the IRS, will target conservative voices opposed to President Obama with delays or denials of medical care.

But why would an administration ever confess to such a flagrant misuse of politics and power?

Bachmann, who chairs the House Tea Party caucus, said it’s the Benghazi scandal.

"I was in that Benghazi hearing,” Bachmann told WND. "I think the Obama administration is desperate to spin Benghazi, and they can’t. I think they saved this story up for a day like today so that conservatives would focus on this admission."

From a Young Black Republican in Georgia

By Rick Pearcey • May 11, 2013, 11:48 AM

Nicholas Buford is a 19-year-old black Republican who attends Valdosta State University in Georgia. He writes in American Thinker:

I am the first black Republican in my family of very religious, conservative Democrats. No one in my family had ever been politically active before, but I have loved politics since I was 13 years old.

After the election in 2008, I decided to find out the values of the two political parties. I came to realize that the values I believe in are within the GOP party platform. At the age of 16, I made the decision to stand up for my values, even though it would be tough.

Since then, I have never been afraid to talk about why I am a Republican and why I am a conservative. I try to educate others on the platform of the GOP as well.

In September 2012 Buford join the university's College Republican club. In November, "I participated in a debate against the College Democrats at my school," he writes. "The audience was over 300 people, and 80% of the crowd was African-American. During that two-hour debate, many students were getting their first glimpse at a black Republican."

According to Buford, "We discussed the social, fiscal, and national defense platforms of America's two major political parties. I stood up for the values of my party and presented the party platform; I spoke passionately about the Republican Party platform and put it in clear and simple language."

Buford explains that "after the debate, I stayed in the debate hall and talked to over 100 students. Many students told me that they had never heard the GOP platform before (they were told that the GOP is the party for rich white people, like most minorities are raised to think)."

That Valdosta State debate may have been something of an eye-opener. "Many students realized how conservative they were," Burford explains. And "many students realized how moderate they were. Several students were begging me to tell them more about the GOP and what we stand for."

And now, says Buford, "I can't go anywhere on campus without someone asking me about the GOP."

White House Meets Press on Benghazi . . . in Private

By Rick Pearcey • May 10, 2013, 03:22 PM

Ben Shapiro writes at Breitbart.com:

In the White House’s latest efforts at transparency, the administration announced to reporters that it would brief reporters on the latest shocking developments about the Benghazi situation . . . behind closed doors.

Politico reports that the meeting started at approximately 12:45 PM ET, and that it moved the normal press briefing to 1:45 PM ET. Jay Carney, White House press secretary, did not comment on whether the meeting took place.

Benghazi Terror: What Did Obama Know and When Did He Know It?

By Rick Pearcey • May 10, 2013, 12:44 PM

Matthew Vadum writes at Frontpagemag.com:

Congressional testimony this week showed the appalling lengths to which the Obama administration went to cover-up its mishandling of last fall’s terrorist attack at the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, but President Obama’s precise role in the cynical operation remains hidden.

Americans still don’t know what President Obama knew and when he knew it. We don’t know what exactly he did when he learned on Sept. 11, 2012 that U.S. officials in Benghazi were under attack. Obama may have gone to bed while the attack was in progress, leaving others in the administration to develop a politically expedient cover story calculated to get the Obama administration past the finish line last Election Day.

"Obama’s advisers, with the president’s consent or not, opted to tell lies to get their man reelected, and to deal with the consequences of those untruths later," Vadum continues. "They knew they could count on the mainstream media to snooze on the job and dismiss the investigation to come as a partisan witch-hunt."

Vadum concludes: "At this point it appears that only partisan leftists, useful idiots, the naive, and the ill-informed profess the belief that run-of-the-mill governmental incompetence explains the administration’s disgraceful behavior on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that brought down the World Trade Center.

"Chances are Republicans in Congress will not drop this critical issue and that this week’s testimony from State Department officials who were bullied and intimidated by the Obama White House is only the beginning."

Redskins Owner: "We'll Never Change the Name"

By Rick Pearcey • May 10, 2013, 11:54 AM

CBSDC reports:

"We’ll never change the name. It’s simple. NEVER."

That’s what Redskins owner Daniel Snyder told USA Today Sports Thursday, with the added caveat, "you can use caps."

Snyder putting his foot down, so to speak, may be what it takes to bring some finality to a debate that’s raged on all offseason over the offensive nature of the team name "Redskins."

The word Redskins is of course neither offensive nor racist. And this lingual fact is not changed just because some person or some group claims to be "offended."

The question is whether the accusation is justified. It is not. Accusation is one thing, proof is another.

In fact, as I have noted elsewhere, the name Redskins is a "way to honor the warrior heart of the American Indian. . . . Redskin is beautiful, as are all skin colors given by our amazing Creator. Celebrate diversity, celebrate Redskins."

Coulter: Beware of Amnesty Liberals in Evangelical Clothing

By Rick Pearcey • May 9, 2013, 10:52 AM

Ann Coulter writes:

Every few months since at least 2006, the New York Times takes time out from brow-beating evangelicals to praise them for supporting amnesty for illegal aliens.

Most of the "evangelicals" the Times cites are liberal frauds, far from "unlikely allies" in amnesty, as alleged. It is a specialty of the left to pose as something they’re not in order to create the impression of a zeitgeist. The only one I haven’t seen quoted yet is the ACLU’s minister, Barry Lynn. . . .

Any evangelical promoting the McCain-Rubio amnesty plan has the moral framework of Planned Parenthood. Like the abortion lobby, they have boundless compassion for the people they can see, but none for those they can’t see.

One evangelical after another told the Times that they no longer believe Americans should have control over who immigrates here on the basis of having met illegal aliens in their pews. The millions harmed by illegal immigration are left out of the equation. They don’t go to church here. . . .

"Adopting a classic liberal trait, these Christians incapable of abstract thinking seem to believe that true compassion consists of giving away something that isn’t theirs," Coulter writes. "They repeatedly cite the biblical passage about treating the stranger as you would yourself. But I note that they don’t invite strangers to move into their houses, sleep in their beds, eat their food and have sex with their wives."

Coulter concludes: "No, they demand that we transform our country into a bankrupt, Third World hellhole so that they can feel good about themselves. But every American has an interest in what kind of country this is. America isn’t theirs to give away out of phony 'Christian' compassion."

By Rick Pearcey • May 6, 2013, 07:46 PM

Here's the must-see video titled, "The Thaw." Produced by "Reach America."

Todd Starnes has the story, which begins: "Late last year, a public school teacher in northern Idaho told students to write an essay titled, 'I Believe.' But there was one caveat -- the students were not allowed to write anything about God in their papers."

Columbus Bishop Risks Jail Defending Catholic School That Fired Homosexual Teacher

By Rick Pearcey • May 6, 2013, 12:47 PM

Kirsten Andersen reports at LifeSiteNews.com:

Columbus Bishop Frederick Campbell has weighed in publicly on the firing of a lesbian teacher from a diocesan high school, telling The Columbus Dispatch that Catholic schools have a "fundamental responsibility" to make sure their teachers uphold the teachings of the faith.

Gym instructor Carla Hale was fired from Bishop Watterson High School last month after an anonymous parent wrote to the Diocese of Columbus to complain that in an obituary for Hale’s mother, Hale was listed as a surviving family member together with her longtime lesbian partner, Julie.

Hale signed a morality clause as part of her contract, affirming that "Catholic school personnel are expected to be examples of moral behavior and professionalism," and acknowledging her employment could be terminated for "immorality" or "serious unethical conduct." Because the Roman Catholic Church holds homosexual behavior to be gravely immoral, the Diocese of Columbus found her to be in violation of her contract, and fired her.

"Hale wants her job back and has filed a grievance with the teachers union, along with a formal complaint with the Columbus Community Relations Commission accusing the school of violating Columbus’s anti-discrimination ordinance," LifeSiteNews reports.

"City law deems it is a misdemeanor for an employer to discriminate against an employee based on sexual preference, or to have policies which do so," and "there is no exemption for religious organizations or other employers who object to homosexuality on religious grounds," according to LifeSiteNews. "A guilty verdict carries penalties of up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. The Community Relations Commission will evaluate Hale’s claim and decide whether to pass it on to the city prosecutor’s office."

Clarence Thomas: Obama "Approved by the Elites" Because He Says What They "Expect From a Black Person"

By Rick Pearcey • May 3, 2013, 01:12 PM

Justice Thomas' remarks occurred during a C-SPAN program at Duquense Law School that aired April 9, 2013. He was asked, "Did you ever expect to see an African-American president during your lifetime?"

Thomas replied:

Yes, I’ve always thought there would be black coaches, black heads of universities -- maybe again as I said I’m naïve, but the thing that I always knew is that it would have to be a black president who was approved by the elites and the media because anybody that they didn’t agree with, they would take apart.

And that will happen with virtually -- you pick your person, any black person who says something that is not the prescribed things that they expect from a black person will be picked apart. You can pick anybody, don’t pick me, pick anyone who has decided not to go along with it; there’s a price to pay. So, I always assumed it would be somebody the media had to agree with.

Free Speech in Canada Under Fire

By Rick Pearcey • May 3, 2013, 09:51 AM

Pamela Geller writes at American Thinker:

Here is yet another instance of the Islamic supremacist/leftist war on free speech -- particularly egregious in the wake of the Boston Marathon jihad bombings. The message is all the more crucial now. For years, my colleagues and I labored under the most heinous circumstances. Anyone who opposes the jihad and the Sharia must endure a constant withering attack on one's name, reputation, integrity, and even spirit.

I was scheduled to speak at the Chabad Flamingo Synagogue in Thornhill, right outside of Toronto's city limits, on May 13. But now Islamic supremacist groups in Canada, with willing aid from the Canadian police, have succeeded in getting the event canceled under police pressure, and the organizers are looking for a new location.

According to Geller, "Insp. Ricky Veerappan, of the York Regional Police force's diversity, equity and inclusion bureau," said this: "Some of the stuff that Ms. Geller speaks about runs contrary to the values of York Regional Police and the work we do in engaging our communities."

To which Geller replies: "Let me understand this. The 'stuff' that I speak about -- gender apartheid, creed apartheid, Islamic Jew-hatred, honor killing -- runs contrary to their values? What exactly are their values? Imposing Sharia? Because that's exactly what they're doing. My value is life. What's theirs?"

Poll: 29% of Registered Voters Say Armed Revolution Might Be Necessary

By Rick Pearcey • May 2, 2013, 01:38 PM

Gregory Gwyn-Williams, Jr., reports at CNSNews.com:

Twenty-nine percent of registered voters think that an armed revolution might be necessary in the next few years in order to protect liberties, according to a Public Mind poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University.

The poll, which surveyed 863 registered voters and had a margin of error of +/-3.4, focused on both gun control and the possibility of a need for an armed revolution in the United States to protect liberty.

Pentagon May Court-Martial Soldiers Who Share the Gospel

By Rick Pearcey • May 2, 2013, 10:45 AM

Ken Klukowski reports at Breitbart.com:

The Pentagon has released a statement confirming that soldiers could be prosecuted for promoting their faith: "Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense. . . . Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis."

"The statement, released to Fox News, follows a Breitbart News report on Obama administration Pentagon appointees meeting with anti-Christian extremist Mikey Weinstein to develop court-martial procedures to punish Christians in the military who express or share their faith," Breitbart reports.

On Nov. 23, 2012, I wrote on Twitter, "You do realize that 'Christian' Obama is in the process of criminalizing Christianity."

I then illustrated this on Facebook with reference to Obamacare, writing also on Nov. 23, 2012:

Obamacare requires the funding of pro-abortion provisions.

Obamamare will fine people who embrace science (the human biology of the fetus), ethics (it's wrong to kill the innocent), the Constitution (there is no basis for the federal gov't to impose its "healthcare" upon the states and the people).

The verifiable data we have vis-a-vis the Christian worldview embraces science, protects the innocent, and favors freedom.

This worldview, as such, cannot therefore be reduced to activities inside prayer closets or to singing 18 verses of "Just as I am."

Community with God and man is intended to be lived out across the whole of life. [emphasis added]

We now already have massive demonization from Obama, the Democrats, and the formerly mainstream Democrat media.

The purpose of demonization is to destroy -- reputations at first; much more later, if necessary.

Fines for not complying with Obamacare will be in force.

What do you think will happen if companies and individuals or companies refuse to pay fines?

Well, stiffer fines. Court. Jail. Possibly more.

This is one of the paths to the criminalization of Christianity currently underway.

Jesus of Nazareth commissioned his followers to take the Good News regarding God's answer to the problem of human brokenness into all parts of the world: "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation" (Mark 16:15-16).

In view of this statement from the Pentagon, we now have the Department of Defense of "Christian" Barack Obama repudiating Christ, repudiating the explicit, normative, publicly actionable, and verifiable teaching of Jesus of Nazareth.

Memo to Obama: The scope of Christ's commission to share with our fellow human beings the Good News from the Creator (who is the basis of unalienable rights), regarding the real-world solution to the brokenness of the human condition, includes all of life, including military life, even at the Pentagon.

Obama is a mere creature. Neither he nor his servants has the authority to countermand this commission from Christ himself. The extremism of Barack Obama against God, humanity, and freedom becomes more evident with each passing day. A free-thinking people, and a freedom-thinking people, revolts.

PC Police Blast RGIII for "Tyranny" Tweet

By Rick Pearcey • May 1, 2013, 01:52 PM

At WND:

Amid pressure to change the nickname of his team, Washington Redskins star quarterback Robert Griffin III has ignited a digital firestorm from the left by pushing back against the "tyranny of political correctness."

In a Twitter message, he declared: "In a land of freedom we are held hostage by the tyranny of political correctness."

The controversy arose as Washington, D.C., Council member David Grosso prepared to introduce a non-binding resolution calling on the city’s beloved team to change its "derogatory, racist name."

Griffin followed his original tweet a short time later with a definition of tyranny, calling it a "condition imposed by some outside agency or force," such as "living under the tyranny of the clock" or "political correctness."

The name "Redskins" of the Washington Redskins is, of course, not racist. In fact, it's a way to honor the warrior heart of the American Indian.

Or as a Whiteskin (JRPearcey) might say to a Blackskin (RGIII): Redskin is beautiful, as are all skin colors given by our amazing Creator. Celebrate diversity, celebrate Redskins.

One more thing, people of all skin tones: Thinking while Black is also beautiful (but perhaps terrifying to PCers).

This is just another reason to respect Mr. Robert Griffin III. A free man who rebels against tyranny. Just like he was created to do.

Ready to Cruz in 2016?

By Rick Pearcey • May 1, 2013, 08:44 AM

Robert Costa writes at National Review:

Freshman senator Ted Cruz is considering a presidential run, according to his friends and confidants.

Cruz won’t talk about it publicly, and even privately he’s cagey about revealing too much of his thought process or intentions. But his interest is undeniable.

"If you don’t think this is real, then you’re not paying attention," says a Republican insider. "Cruz already has grassroots on his side, and in this climate, that’s all he may need."

"There’s not a lot of hesitation there," adds a Cruz donor who has known the Texan for decades. "He’s fearless."
